Tata Altroz EV
Tata Altroz EV
We have all seen Tata Altroz in its petrol and diesel version and we all loved it as well. Tata Motors showed us a glimpse of the future with the Altroz EV put on display at the Geneva Motor Show as well as the Auto Expo 2020. What we saw was a concept car that may differ from the actual production model. Tata Motors is adding new cars to its Electric Vehicle segment. In this article, we discuss all that we know about the Altroz EV in detail.
Price in India
The Altroz EV is expected to be launched by the end of 2021. Tata Motors could price the Altroz EV around Rs 12 Lakhs. With this price range, Tata Motors will try to place another car below the Nexon EV. They have already started planning strategies to make electric vehicles affordable and a common sight on Indian roads.
Moreover, the Vice President of Passenger Electric Vehicles business at Tata Motors not-so-long-ago declared that all the vehicles in the Tata Motors lineup are capable of going electric whenever the company wishes. This means the launch of Altroz EV would not take long.
Altroz’s electric avatar will be based on the 'Agile Light Flexible Advanced' aka ALFA-Arc platform which has been developed especially for the Altroz EV from scratch. The battery pack will be a 30.2kWh liquid-cooled, IP 67 lithium-ion setup which is built to generate around 100bhp. The EV will be based on the company’s Ziptron EV technology. The Nexon EV is also based on the same. The Altroz, which never received an automatic gearbox, will see a single-speed transmission come in its EV avatar. The Altroz EV will also get regenerative braking to put in some extra miles.
The overall look and feel of the Altroz EV continue to be the same as the Altroz but there are some cosmetic changes to differentiate it from its IC variants. The grille will remind you of the Nexon EV, but just a smaller version of it. The color combination and the design language will ensure you have Tata DNA in this car. The Altroz EV continues to get projector headlamps along with DRL and fog lamps. The 16-inch alloy wheels get a new design with a distinct touch of blue. The taillights will be similar to those of Nexon EV, just as a continuation of the EV design language shared between these two cars from Tata. The Altroz EV will also continue to support the 90degree door opening feature making entry and exit from the car much more comfortable for senior citizens as well.
The Altroz EV comes with dual airbags, ABS+EBD, Corner Stability Control (CSC), reverse parking camera, ISOFIX child seat compatibility, parking assistance, height-adjustable seat belts.
You get a flat steering wheel with steering-mounted controls, floating touchscreen with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, iRA Connected Car Tech, ABS with EBD, and dual airbags are some of the features expected with the Altroz EV. The Altroz EV could also get wireless charging for front-row passengers and fast charging ports for rear passengers. The seats appear to be comfortable and premium in quality. The overall fit and finish of the car look premium. The boot space of 345 liters is also big enough to carry the luggage of a small family of four people.
Ride and Handling
The suspension of the Altroz EV is fine-tuned to tackle any kind of city roads or highways giving maximum comfort and confidence to the occupants.
The charging time is expected to be close to an hour on DC fast charging when charging from 0 to 80%. The range of the EV is expected to be around 300km on a single charge, however, actual figures might differ. If Tata maintains this charging time to range ratio with its final product, the Altroz will be a great choice for city commutes as well as highway drives.
The Altroz EV will be offered in Signature Teal Blue color which we currently see on the Nexon EV as well. Later on, Altroz EV could get the same colors as the Altroz.
High Street Gold
Down Town Red
To start with, Altroz EV will be the only variant available in the Altroz range.
The Altroz EV will continue to share its dimensions with the Altroz just as the Nexon EV does with Nexon.
Ground Clearance 165mm
Boot Space 345 Litre
The only threat that Tata Altroz EV can see in the near future is the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R-EV as this will be priced lower than the Altroz EV. If Altroz EV stands true to the high mileage claims made by Tata Motors, then it will surely set a high benchmark for its rivals.
