Toyota Platinum Etios launched for INR 7.1 lakhs (on-road)
Toyota Platinum Etios is the latest updated version of the sedan. This isn’t an all new car, but it has got subtle changes to make it better and more exciting. Toyota has been getting timely updates for the sedan and the hatchback. Now, the question that arises is, what does the new Platinum Etios have on offer and is it worth considering? Does it have what one looks out in a Toyota? We review the new Toyota Platinum Etios and share our detailed review for the same.
Toyota Platinum Etios Design
To begin with the design aspect, the new Platinum Etios looks more elegant from the front. The new front grille somewhat matches the design of the new Baleno. I’m not comparing, but one cannot deny the similarity. There is a thin chrome lip that makes it look more upmarket. Other than this, we cannot spot any major changes at the front.
Side looks the same like before. The rear gets a new chrome strip with Etios embossed on it. This is just like the Innova and the Fortuner. The Platinum Etios gets these many changes on the outside. Nothing else is offered as new on the titivated version of the sedan.

Toyota Platinum Etios Interiors
The interiors too aren’t very different. The instrument cluster is still located at the centre, however it gets new dials. These look a lot more upmarket than before. The music system is the same and the quality of the speakers could have been better. The AC vents form a different design and looks unconventional. The quality of the materials of the sedan have seen an improvement and now the cabin feels a lot better than ever.
The beige seat fabric makes the cabin feel airy. At the same time, the front seats have adjustable head rests. Toyota has worked its way up on the Etios and it now feels much better than before. The rear seat space one of the best in its segment. With a boot space of just under 600 litres, this is the largest boot in its segment.

Toyota Platinum Etios Engine
The engines on offer are a gem. The 1.5-litre petrol is certainly the most peppiest engine in its segment. With just 90bhp of power, it doesn’t look appealing on paper. When you drive it, your opinion changes completely. This seems to be a lot more powerful than 90bhp. The engine is highly refined and one doesn’t requires a downshift for most of the overtakes. The diesel also despite producing 68bhp has good enough power to lug all day at 60 km/hr in the top cog. The diesel misses out on the punch that the petrol gets, still it is peppy and convenient. The power delivery on this engine is very linear.
The five-speed manual transmission is smooth and sleek. The throws are short and one doesn’t struggle to shift. This is what makes the transmission smooth.

Toyota Platinum Etios Mileage
Despite being peppy, the Etios has phenomenal fuel efficiency for both its engines. The petrol returns about 13 km/l in the city and about 17 km/l on the highway. This is if you drive comfortably and do not go pedal to metal. The diesel has impressive economy too. In city, it returns about 16 km/l, while on the highway it gives about 21 km/l with ease.
