The upcoming premium hatchback from Tata Motors, which is codenamed X451 has been spied testing. This new hatchback will compete with the Maruti Baleno and the Hyundai Elite i20. Tata Motors is in following launching new generation models like the Tiago, Tigor and also the Nexon. These products have been proved well and are seeing good success as well. Tata will be bringing the X451.

This is another new premium hatchback in the making. Tata wants to enter the premium hatchback segment and challenge the likes of Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and the Honda Jazz. The premium hatchback segment has recently seen a growth and Tata will want to get into this segment as well. The new Tata X451 is in the process of being designed and developed for Indian car markets and even exports. What does it have on offer? We share our detailed preview.

The spy pics give an idea of what this new premium hatchback will be like. It is based of the new modular platform. This will be competing with the Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and the Honda Jazz. It will be another exciting offering from Tata. With a length of under 4 metres, this will come with a 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines on offer. This will even get new transmission as well. At the same time, there will new features too and likely to be one of the most feature-loaded vehicles in this segment. In terms of safety also, there could be more than two airbags and ABS too.

Tata X451 Launch Date

The Tata X451 will make it to the market only in 2019. The prototypes are currently undergoing reliability tests. The company is focusing on establishing The Hexa and the Nexon in the market, currently.

Tata X451 Price

The X451 is expected to be priced at ₹ 6 lakhs to ₹ 10 lakhs (on-road). The petrol and diesel engines will come mated with manual and automatic (AMT) transmission options.

Tata X451 Design

This new premium hatchback will be based on the new impact design language of Tata Motors. The front grille will have a  humanity line and also have a honeycomb mesh grille. The headlamps will be pulled back and will have daytime running LEDs integrated in them. Tata X451 will be manufactured in India and also exported to other markets. The new Tata X451 will be based on the X1 platform. At the moment, it is a bit early to comment as the vehicle is yet to be developed in a concept form.

Tata X451 Interior

As the X451 will be based on the AMP, it will even share its interiors with the Nexon. This will be the company’s first premium hatchback and practicality and space will be its two key USPs. In terms of quality, the company will want to give the best in class and the same goes for the features. Tata X451 shall be offered with features like in-dash Harman infotainment system with reverse camera, navigation etc. There will be telephone connectivity, dual airbags, ABS and even 15-inch alloy wheels. The new X451 will have a lot of features on offer and shall have several first-in-class as well. The Nexon and X451 will have many elements in common.

Tata X451 Engines

The X451 is likely to get a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, while the diesel might be the 1.5-litre that will be shared with the Nexon. These are new generation engines from Tata. The engines will churn about 100-110bhp of power and will be offered with a six-speed manual and AMT options. These will be the first set of premium hatchbacks that shall get AMT.

Tata X451 Competition

The Tata X451 will be competing with the Hyundai Elite i20, Maruti Baleno and the Honda Jazz. Tata Motors is looking at enhancing its reach in this segment. What they will have to offer is the best in class, that is when it work out.
