Tata Tiago Sport to be launched in 2018

Tata Tiago Sport is another version of the Tiago that is in the making. Tata Motors had showcased the Bolt Sport at the 2016 Auto Expo, however it will not see the daylight.

The reason being simple: the Bolt hasn’t been doing well in terms of sales numbers. So, expecting the Bolt Sport to do good number will be a very steep task. Tata Motors is instead working towards introducing the Sports version of the Tiago.

Tata Motors has been working on different versions for the Tiago.

The Kite 5 will be the company’s compact sedan based on the Tiago. At the same time, there is even the Tiago Aktiv. The Indian car brand has always wanted a young hatchback brand and this will be replaced by the Tiago. The Bolt Sport and even the Tiago Sport are being developed Jayem Automotive. This is the same company that even developed the Super Nano and the super powerful Indica eV2 a few years ago.

Tata Tiago Sport Launch Date

The Tata Tiago Sport will be launched by mid 2018. This will be an updated version of the Tiago. There will not be many changes in the design of the Tiago, but some additional bits shall be added on to it. Tata Motors is likely to showcase the Tiago Sport at the 2018 Auto Expo.

Design

There will not be a major change in the design of the vehicle. But the Tiago Sport will get subtle additions. This will include a front spoiler, side skirt, sporty looking alloy wheels, stylish rear spoiler. There shall be trendy and stylish colours too. The alloy wheels could also be black, but too early to predict that. The Tiago will have a lot more stylish elements added to it, to make it look amazing.

Tata Tiago Sport Engine

Where the Tiago Sport will excel will be performance. Tata Motors won’t be using Bolt Sport’s 1.2-litre engine. Instead it will be using the existing 1.

2-litre engine on the Tiago. This will be turbocharged and should produce close to 120bhp. Now, this same engine is being used in the Tata Nexon too, however it will come with 105bhp. Tiago’s current petrol engine is the 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine that has been developed in-house. This should come with a six-speed manual transmission. Considering the weight and engine power, the Tiago should do 100km/hr from naught in about 8 seconds. This will have multiple driving modes, and we reckon it could get three modes. This will be Eco, City and Sport.

Tata Tiago Sport Price

This will be a game changing price. Expect the Tiago Sport to be launched at INR 6.5 lakhs (on-road). This will be coming with the more powerful engine. This will be somewhere in the price of the diesel Tiago. Though it will have some extra cosmetics that will be offered. This will be a good choice for those looking at a sporty vehicle to drive on a daily basis. More than anything it will be affordable. There shall not be multiple variants and just one variant will be made available. This will have all the features of XZ and maybe even XZ(O) from the Tigor too.

Tata Tiago Sport Mileage

Despite being a 120bhp engine, the Tiago will have much better fuel-efficiency. It should return about 14km/l, if you drive it normally.

Tata Tiago Sport Features

The Tiago Sport will have a body kit. It will be more aggressive styling. The Tiago Sport will come with a rear spoiler too. On the inside, there shall be more sporty styling. Expect an all black or dual tone interior scheme. As it will be an upgrade variant, there will not be any difference in the space. We can expect some additional features on the Tiago Sport, maybe a touchscreen system could be added to it. This way it will have more features too than that on the regular Tiago XZ.

Suspension Set-Up

The suspension set-up of this vehicle will be a tad stiffer. The Tiago already has a good balance of ride and handling, it will be fine tuning for even better handling. The Tiago Sport ride quality might not be affected too much. Tata Motors is looking at getting a more powerful car, so we reckon the brakes could also see an upgrade. This will mean better performance and torque with fade-free braking. The steering wheel will be the same and the electronic mechanism will continue as well. The new Tiago Sport should sport 15-inch wheels, like that on the Tigor. But the alloy design should be different.

Tata Tiago Sport Advantage

The Tiago Sport will be the most affordable hatchback in its segment. Most of the automakers are getting performance hatchbacks in the premium hatch segment. At this price point, this will be the only hatch. The other hot hatchbacks are priced in the range of Rs 9 lakhs to Rs 12 lakhs. This one will offer better performance at a lower price.
