This is one scooter that takes me back to school days. Yes it was launched back then, in the times when geared scooters like the Bajaj Chetak and the LML Vespa ruled this segment along with strong support from Kinetic Honda. TVS launched the brand with a small scooter called the Scooty back in 1994.

This was, I guess, the only 3rd scooter to have automatic gears beside the Kinetic Honda Dx and the bicycle of a scooter called the Sunny. In proportions the Dx was the biggest 2nd being the TVS Scooty and then the Sunny. The market went bonkers as having an automatic to ride was seen like a futuristic technology back then. The Scooty evolved from Scooty to Scooty Pep to now the TVS Scooty Pep Plus and like many manufacturers this is a feminine focussed bike and who else to be the brand ambassador than Anushka Sharma. Let’s have a look how well does it benefit women.

TVS Scooty Pep Plus Top Speed

TVS claims a top speed of 70 km/h for the TVS Scooty Pep Plus. This is by far one of the slowest scooters but would you want more while getting “Sabji home”? This is more than enough if you are carrying meat and being chased by the street dogs too.

TVS Scooty Pep Plus Specifications

Engine 88cc
Power 5bhp @ 6500 rpm
Torque 6Nm @ 4500 rpm
Transmission Automatic
Bore 51mm
Stroke 43mm
Starter DC CDI

I know these are not earth shattering specs. But TVS Scooty Pep Plus has tried to make up with loads of feature. Like some bikes it’s soul purpose is to get you from point A to B and that’s about it, unless getting chores done is a need for speed.

I remember people using this scooter to take heavy load around, this was when it was not a women focused bike and being at an excellent price point labourers used to use it to transport small load of cement bags. I even saw coconuts being carried. Speed was not the moto, transport was.

TVS Scooty Pep Plus Dimensions

Length 1735mm
Width 590mm
Height 1065mm
WheelBase 1230mm
Ground Clearance 135mm
Kerb Weight 95kgs

TVS Scooty Pep Plus is by far the smallest scooty in the market. Even narrower than the Ray-Z at 675 mm. Now I know why women are loving it and are able to use it so effortlessly. With its kerb weight being just 7 kgs more than me, the weighing scale will have a tough time deciding on which side to go down. The smile Anushka had seemed like she enjoyed too rather than just the money she got.

TVS Scooty Pep Plus Design

TVS has done quite a lot of advancements and they are visible. The smile shaped light is bigger and clear. The indicators have shifted from the handle to the front panel and are also clear. And an elongation like a beak on the front panel that works like a mudguard. These changes are refreshingly welcome.

The TVS Scooty Pep Plus has a new telescopic forks that help stabilize this light vehicle. Hats off to you TVS for giving such a feature at this price. I sometimes wonder how or why are other brands not taking this step forward. Considering the length the seat is not too long but there is decent leg room between the your knee and the panel. The grabrail is well placed and the light below flow elegantly in sync with the grab rails. The body coloured mirrors are also a nice touch to the premium feel.

What I was happy to find was that TVS has take women safety seriously too. They have added a 12v charging socket and a phone holder too, so the phones never run out of juice and can alway keep their phones handy in case of an emergency. The chrome strip on the exhaust looks very classy.

TVS Scooty Pep Plus Colours

The TVS Scooty Pep Plus is available in the following colours.

  • Nero Brown
  • Frosted Black
  • Nero Blue
  • Vivacious Purple
  • Princess Pink

Well yes this too come in “BLACK”! Don’t give me that look, what if catwoman gets inspired and wants one.

TVS Scooty Pep Plus Mileage

With a small 5 litre tank, TVS Scooty Pep Plus claims an efficiency of 68 km/l. Even if we consider 60 km/l this is an approx of 300 km before we have to stop for a fuel up. This would easily last for a month of use.

TVS Scooty Pep Plus Ride and Handling

The Scooty has been a workhorse. Working tirelessly for people for over 22 years. It has changed engines, colours, gender focus etc and is still going strong trying really hard to keep up with the current generation. The light weight makes it extremely agile but at the same time the undulations on the road can upset the stability thanks to the small tyres.

Also there is a major sway due to cross winds if any big vehicle passes by. Lucky enough though to make up for all this TVS have put telescopic front forks. The TVS Scooty Pep Plus a stress free bike for the wanting to be stress free consumer.

Summary

At this price there is nothing else out there other than the TVS Scooty Pep Plus. And the small touches like mobile charger are well appreciated. I still hope TVS does some major changes to take their Scooty brand further, as this is what started it off for them and hope it continues to hold its foundation strong as ever.
