Audi TT Review – Pocket Rocket

It was just the other day when I was reading a story on how Donald Trump’s election speech events had a lot of people thrown out. Majority of them where blacks. This puts me in thoughts about how a country that majorly talks about democracy and modern thoughts differentiates it from the medieval thinking world from the rest of the world. What’s more no enquiries have been held against anyone? At least in that sense, our election campaigns do not have this issue before the politicians want to save their vote bank and majority of the listeners have come there simply because they are paid to attend it. That is a major advantage of having that excessive black money , buy your audience and buy your votes. But if you aren’t the one who has been living on white money itself and you haven’t accumulate a lot but good enough to buy something luxurious, there are plenty of options. However, if your heart beats for a sports car, then we could have something for you in India— the new-generation Audi TT. 

Audi TT Exterior

The TT no looks cute and this one is a lot more stylish and aggressive. With the TT in its third generation, its headlamps have progressively gone thinner and styling more masculine. The cuteness factor has reduced but I do find it a lot more appealing. Whats more, this fits in perfectly with the modern age styling. What I liked is how it differentiates in styling from the rest of the Audis and this gives it a different character. The fascia will remind you of the R8, and this is good. I like the fact that it could be mistaken as a R8.

Side profile looks muscular and sporty compared to the previous generations that looked curvy. The rear too has more style factor on to it, then the older versions. I have always liked how the TT drove, but I wasn’t a big fan of its styling. Now, it seems Audi is listening to us.

Audi TT Interior

Now on the inside is where Audi has implemented an all new design too. There no MMI screen at the centre, as it has been moved into the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster is an LED screen with a digital speedometer, and it is flexible to switch to maps, music etc as per the MMI command. The TT being a sports car made purely for the driver, everything revolves around this seat. All the controls, display are around the driver. The centre console consists of a simple set of three AC vents with the control knobs embedded in them. Some switches underneath the AC vents.

There is ample of space for two large adults at the front. There are seats at the back too, however its a 2+2, which means only kids can fit at the back. The TT is spacious, comfortable for two people with good enough back and thigh support for the occupants. There is a fairly large boot too for the weekend getaways.

Audi TT Engine

The 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine packs in good enough punch for daily driving. Of course overtaking is a breeze, but it is the smoothness that makes it more practical. There isn’t a gush of torque released when the turbo kicks in. It is rather linear that makes it easier to drive. This engine produces 230bhp of power and 370Nm of torque. This comes mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The TT is quick enough for city driving at the same time, it is nimble to make it through those tiny mini gaps with sufficient power. The exhaust note in the Dynamic mode is grunty and sporty. This is what we like about the Audi TT. Despite being a small engine, it has that sports car looks, feel and sound. Yes, performance is good enough too, especially in the Dynamic mode.

Now why most of the people do not buy a sports car and rather pick an SUV? Its about the ground clearance. One doesn’t has to worry about this, with the TT. We drove on a lot of bad and uneven roads, still it didn’t bottom out even once. We were careful with it initially but later on we realised how good the clearance is. The ride quality is good and feels like that of a luxury car. The handling prowess is good. We didn’t go all wild on winding roads neither did we take it on a track. This sports car a good pocket rocket to consider.

Audi TT Verdict

Now, at a price of INR 69 lakhs on road, the TT is good product to consider. Many will pick up the SUVs at this price. Only a person who owns multiple luxury cars will consider this, or someone in their youth will go for the TT. It has been iconic and the new-gen has upped the ante.
