The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class has been priced at INR 61.5 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai) for the petrol version (E200) and the diesel (E350d) is INR 73.2 lakhs. The E-Class is a long-wheel base version, which means it has more knee room for the rear passenger.

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is based on the Sensual Purity design philosophy which was also used to design the C-Class and S-Class. the new model is curvier and the design has a better flow than the earlier model. The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class gets new front bumpers, similar to the AMG sports package ones in the current E-Class, which has two air intakes and a mesh grille and looks more aggressive. The front grille is the classic and iconic Mercedes grille but has simpler flowing lines. It also has full LED headlamps with stylish DRLs.

The grille has a big logo in the centre, similar to the current E-Class. From the rear, it looks very similar to the C-Class. It is only from the side that you can make out the difference.

In fact, India is the only market in the world to get a right hand drive, long wheelbase version.  The design of the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class has better aerodynamic efficiency that sees the drag coefficient reduce to 0.

2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Interior

The interior of the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the most interesting part. It is highly elegant and a significant change over the current model. The interiors get some first time features like a 12.3-inch full HD screen for media.

Mercedes-Benz has included touch-sensitive control buttons on the steering wheel, which is a first in the automobile industry. These buttons have a horizontal and vertical swipe function, similar to touchscreen phones or tabs and can easily manage controlling the infotainment system. However, it doesn’t lose out on the traditional COMAND controller dial on the floor console in between the front seats.

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class also gets a 13-speaker Burmester audio system which gives out clear and crisp sounds. Another first time feature in the interior is the LED lighting with 64 colour options.

2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Engine

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E- Class will see a shift in engines. E200 gets a 2.0-litre petrol engine with 184bhp and 300Nm of torque. Then there’s the E350d with a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine with 258bhp and a mammoth 620Nm of torque. These engines come mated to a 9G-Tronic, nine-speed automatic gearbox as standard.

We drove the E350d and found the car to have very good punch. This mixed with a high refinement adds to the driving pleasure. There are driving modes with individual preferences which take customization to a higher level. This a very torquey motor and brilliant for high speed overtaking.

2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Ride and Handling

This is one car that has a phenomenal ride quality. The E350d additionally gets Air Body Control that aides in a supple ride and takes care of vertical movement in the car. The E-Class rides smoothly even over some harsh terrains. On flat roads it pure bliss in the way it just glides. Also, this ride quality is enjoyed the most in the rear seats.

The rear seats of the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class are one of the most comfortable places to be in. The backrest reclines in this one and also gets a memory function, just like the front seats.
