Most cars from Maruti have tasted good success. The same is the case with the Maruti Celerio. The Celerio is one of the most successful cars from Maruti in recent times. The sales of the Maruti Celerio CNG have been growing consistently. As the Celerio appeals to a younger crowd, they prefer buying a Celerio CNG to other options within the Maruti umbrella. The Wagon R is generally bought by those who want more utility. The Celerio feels more evolved and premium to the WagonR as well.. The Celerio comes in petrol, CNG. The diesel engine on the Celerio has been discontinued as customers prefer CNG for fuel efficiency over diesel, in the case of the Celerio. There is even an AMT version too, though available on the petrol version only. The Maruti Celerio CNG is available only on the VXi variant and not on LXi or ZXi. Is it worthwhile to buy? We find out in our review.

Maruti Celerio CNG Design

Maruti Suzuki Celerio 09

The Maruti Celerio CNG is available only in the Vxi trim. Hence it does not get all features one gets in the ZXi trim. There are no alloy wheels and the door handles and mirrors are also not body coloured. The CNG version is mostly bought by budget conscious customers, hence Maruti has not included extra bells and whistles here, to keep the price low. The design of the car remains the same. This includes the large front grille and pulled back headlamps. The fascia resembles other Suzuki cars.

Maruti Celerio CNG Interiors

Maruti Celerio CNG interiors are same as the other versions. It looks quite contemporary and is good value for the money spent. The Celerio has a dual-tone dashboard with beige and black colours. The finish is also good which makes it look premium. The CNG comes only in VXi, so it doesn’t get a factory-fitted music system, no ABS or airbags. here would be an addition of ABS, once the new regulations set in, but as of now you get neither. The features on the Maruti Celerio CNG are all four power windows, power steering, AC and integrated dual fuel gauges.

The Maruti Celerio CNG gets dual tone seats, which also look stylish. The space offered in the front row is good enough for tall people and the seats have decent support too. The best part is that the rear also has great leg room and knee room. Even tall passengers would find it comfortable to sit in. It is certainly good and comfortable too, but the limited thigh support could have been optimised. The CNG tank takes up all the space, hence there is hardly any luggage space in the boot.  So, the only option will be to use a carrier for luggage.

The Maruti Celerio CNG gets is power from a 1.0-litre K-Series engine. This engine produces 59bhp of power and 78Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. There is no AMT available on the CNG version. The power on the Maruti Celerio CNG is a bit lesser than the petrol version. However, it doesn’t feel underpowered at any point of time. Most of the power comes at high rpm so for best performance one has to rev up a bit. The driveability of the car is also good. The Maruti Celerio CNG is so easy to drive in city and even on the highways.

Variant Mileage
Celerio CNG 31.79 km/kg

The Maruti Celerio CNG has a mileage of about 16km for a kilogram of CNG. This is what it will give in the city and it depends on how do you drive the vehicle. We weren’t very hard on the accelerator but we did encounter a lot of traffic.

Maruti Celerio CNG Ride and Handling

The Maruti Celerio CNG has a light electronic steering wheel that makes it convenient to drive in city. The ride is pliant at low and city speeds, however it does get a bit jittery at higher speeds. For city driving, the handling is good and it drives fine on freeways and expressways as well.

 Maruti Celerio CNG Verdict

The Celerio CNG is one of the most affordable hatchback in its segment and is the perfect package. The Wagon R’s interiors have started to look aged and the Celerio is a better option to pick as you will look at keeping the car for a period of three to five years. At the price and the mileage, Celerio CNG is a great buy. Wish it was also available in the ZXi variant also.
