Tata as we know has been on a roll for some time now with the success of its latest cars. The H5X has been christened as the ‘Harrier’. The announcement has also been made that Tata Motors is planning to invest a reported, USD 1 billion dollars into the launch of 12 new cars. These cars will be based on Tata’s Alfa and Omega platform.

This is the second big announcement in terms of huge investment towards new products by a manufacturer. Volkswagen’s India Plan 2.0 makes Skoda take the lead into investing USD 1.7 billion for a new generation of products.

Tata 45X Front

 

The ‘Omega’ platform that is the ‘Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced Architecture’ has been derived from Jaguar Land Rover’s D8 platform. This platform is used on the Land Rover Discovery. The platform is also serving as the basis of the Tata Harrier, the five-seater Creta rival.

The Harrier should commence with its production this year and be launched by January 2019. The second platform, ‘Alfa’ will be will be used to develop the Tata 45X concept as shown in the 2018 Auto Expo. It will be a hatchback that competes with the Maruti Baleno and Hyundai i120. The platform will also serve to develop a sedan that can rival the Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna and Honda City.

To sum it up, we can say that the Omega platform will be made to develop big cars like the Harrier and the upcoming seven-seater car based on the same platform as the H5X. There will be more cars that will be made on this platform. The Omega platform meanwhile will also be used to make electric vehicles. These 12 new cars will come into production over the next 3 years.

In order to meet the production demands for these vehicles, the plans involve adding a new manufacturing line at their plant in Chakan in Pune. The plant will be used to make the Omega platform based car. There is word of at least 12 new models, both electric and ICE (Internal Combustion Engine), to be built around these platforms.

In order to meet the production demands for these vehicles, Tata is planning to put another assembly line in the company’s Chakan plant in Pune. The plant will be used to manufacture the ‘Omega’ platform based cars that will be built in the next five years. At least 12 new models, both electric and ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) are going to be made. The production requirements for the Harrier are already being taken care of. The Pune plant is being prepped right now to take on additional load of manufacturing the Harrier that will see its launch early next year.

With all of this and the launch of the Harrier and in the near future, Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP we see a new side of Tata. They are aiming to become more efficient, profitable and are gaining customer confidence with their vehicles. The Tiago, Tigor, Hexa and Nexon have shown us Tata in a fresh breath of air.
