Cross badging hasn’t worked very well in India.

The Renault-Nissan JV hasn’t seen a major success for most of the products, the VW-Skoda hasn’t given great numbers. When two highly trusted brands go for cross badging, will it work in India? One of the most successful premium hatchback.

Toyota will be selling Maruti Suzuki products like the Baleno and the Vitara Brezza. This will be manufactured by Maruti Suzuki itself, but with different styling. The sales and service will be completely controlled by Toyota for these products making it an easier product to access for the brand.

On the other hand, the Corolla Altis shall be manufactured by Toyota, but re-badged and shall even be sold under Nexa Experience dealerships. This will make it an exciting journey for the two automakers. The two will see a reduction in their cost and add on to the sales numbers for the Indian market.

Will be excited to buy a Toyota Baleno, Brezza or a Maruti Corolla Altis? There are reports claiming, Toyota will not just rebadge but even enhance the quality of the two products it will get into the Indian market from Suzuki. This way a Toyota buyer will get better quality of plastics – though there is no official confirmation on the same. We reckon, the process should start in 2019 itself and that is when all the three vehicles will see the day light. There won’t be any difference in the features on offer either. So the question again, will you buy a re-badged Toyota or a Maruti and why/ why not?
