Tata 45X to be unveiled at Geneva in production guise

Tata will enter the premium hatchback segment this year. The segment is a very serious one, where buyers want a lot of features for the money they are shelling out. The Tata 45X has not been named yet. 45X is the codename for this car which will be based on the concept shown at the 2018 Auto Expo. It will undoubtedly be a great looking hatchback with the current design language in mind. We now know that the car will be displayed and shown at the Genenva Motor Show. Apart from design, Tata has been giving high importance to safety lately. This segment is currently ruled by the Maruti Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20 in terms of sales, but the safest car here is the Ford Figo with its Titanium Plus edition that packs 6 airbags. Tata will want to shake up the segment with this new car, which will come with some segment first features. The Tata will offer more value and will come with a better price range.

Tata 45X Launch Date in India

The Tata 45X will be launched only by 2019. It will be unvieled at the Geneva Motor Show in March. We had earlier reported that the car will be launched around September. We were pretty close. The car will be launched next year in August. The car is currently undergoing rigorous tests. The testing mule of this car has been spotted and released multiple times. Currently, the company is focusing on Harrier, Nexon, Tiago, and Tigor. The Harrier, Tigor and Tiago have their JTP versions released recently. The car will be After this the company will bring forth the Harrier in January next year. We recently saw the car being tested at the Kari race track. There are pictures below of the car being tested in different environments.

Tata 45X Price in India

The Tata 45X is likely to be priced between ₹6 lakhs and ₹ 10 lakhs, on-road. Tata will try and undercut the Maruti Baleno in pricing. This will give it a serious edge. The car will be manufactured locally. Thus, from the start, this will give it a big edge in competitive pricing. If the pricing of the Nexon is to be considered, then we can safely assume the Tata 45X is going to want a large piece of the segment. The i20, Jazz, Punto, and Baleno are a part of the premium hatchback segment and have shaped the market to their needs. Tata will have to make sure that they give the features that a customer in this segment is used to. Cars sold in this segment carry certain customer expectations and demands that need to be fulfilled by the manufacturer while being very competitively and closely priced. The 45X is an exciting package and should be offering some good value for money.

Tata 45X Mileage

This will be a fuel-efficient car. The petrol is expected to return 11km/l in the city and 16km/l on the highway. The diesel will return 14km/l in the city and 20km/l on the highway. These figures will be attained in real life driving conditions. The ARAI certified figures will be higher. We aren’t certain on the exact mileage, but it will be an exciting package.

Tata 45X Safety 

The Tata 45X will also be a very safe car when it will launch. The car could get 6 airbags, Traction control, ABS, EBD, ESP and other safety features like Corner Control Stability and also Pedestrian safety.

Tata 45X Interior

The 45X will share many parts of the interiors with the Nexon and the bigger Tata Harrier. The biggest and most key feature revealed in the spy feature is that there will be a Nexon style floating screen. The size of the screen does look a little bigger than the Nexon’s touchscreen. The dashboard design philosophy inside continues with Tata’s Impact Design 2.0 philosophy. Features that we can see on the car are Automatic Climate Control, Push-start-stop and Traction and a space to keep stuff on the inside. This will be the company’s first premium hatchback and practicality and space will be its two key USPs.

The company aims to offer the best in class quality and also features. The Tata 45X shall be offered with features like in-dash Harman infotainment system with reverse camera, navigation etc. There will be an auto-dimming mirror too. There will be leatherette used with normal fabrics. The car will There will be Bluetooth connectivity, dual airbags, and ABS+EBD. The new Tata 45X will have a lot of features on offer and shall have several first-in-class as well. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay should be made available from the start itself. There could also be Park Assist that makes its way to the 45X. This will come with push start-stop button, keyless entry, and even reverse camera.

Tata 45X Design

When it comes to styling, the 45X follows the Impact 2.0 design language, which is to be used by Tata Motors on all its future models. This hatchback is based on the Advanced Modular Platform. The platform will underpin all kinds of vehicles from Tata Motors in the coming times. The Tata 45X is a futuristic concept. It has sharp lines and a very aerodynamic design. Shod with a sleek front end, the windshield rakes sharply, to give it a very sporty stance. It looks dynamic even at a standstill. The whole car gives off a very athletic vibe. The spoiler looks like a continuation of the roof of the car.

The Tata 45X gets a thin grille. It’s fitted with LED headlamps and DRLs. The lower grille is going to be on the lower part of the front bumper. The front bumper itself looks very big and low. Flared wheel arches make it look muscular. The car is wide enough to rival the likes of Hyundai Elite i20 and Maruti Baleno. The Tata 45X has a long wheelbase. It is low slung and the engine bay is small. This gives us a sense that the cabin shall be very spacious. This is what will be its USP and what customers would like to have in a premium hatchback. The other thing if you notice is the flat bonnet will aid in visibility and make maneuvering this car in traffic a breeze. The result will be the driver having a relaxed drive.

The 45X has pronounced body lines. It also gets blackened A and B pillars, a rising shoulder line, a rear-sloping roof and sharply raked rear windscreen.

The Spy shots also show design details of the car and how the roofline in the concept shown to us before will be integrated into the car. The car is most likely going to have a dual tone paint job with the roof being black. The cars headlight design is yet to be discovered. The side of the 45x shows of a very distinctive design. The front end where the bonnet sits is flat and not a curve. This will give the driver a better judgment of the car. The car looks very tall and the rear also has a distinctive hatch design to it. The car shown in the above and below pictures have dummy lights on them. We can expect these cars to come with projector lamps and daytime running LEDs and taillights.

Now for the first time, we have come upon the spy shots of the 45X’s interior. Also shown here is the exterior of the car from the rear. The rear shows the car’s sleek LED tail lights. The car will get a Harrier inspired interior, which will be plush to make sure buyers of the premium hatchback segment are not disappointed with the car. The car will get a touchscreen from the Harrier or Nexon with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a reverse parking camera with sensors The car will also be offered with a lot of safety features as standard. Tata will also make sure that this car will be the safest car in the segment by sending it for various global safety tests.

Tata 45X Specifications

The 45X is going to get a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine. The diesel might be the 1.5-litre, which will be shared with the Nexon. These are the new generation engines from Tata. The engines will churn about 100-110bhp of power and will be offered with a six-speed manual and also AMT options. These will be the first set of premium hatchbacks that shall get AMT. The engines will be fuel efficient too. The six-speed gearbox will do wonders for the mileage. They might not be the best when it comes to performance, but they will offer a good package, especially at the price this car is expected to come at. It will also be cheaper and more cost effective to have an AMT unit in the car rather than a traditional automatic. This could be one of the same units as seen on the Nexon.

Tata 45X JTP 

JTP is the word on everyone’s lips when we talk about Tata Motors. Yes, there is a big possibility for the JTP touch be given to the car. We can see Tata applying this as a standard across it’s line us. A JTP variant will be very interesting. The JTP version will battle the Baleno RS directly in the super-mini or premium hatchback segment.

Tata 45X Competition

The 45X will be competing with the Fiat Punto, Hyundai Elite i20, Maruti Baleno and the Honda Jazz. Tata Motors is looking at enhancing its reach in this segment. What they will have to offer is the best in class, that is when it will work out. This car is expected to bring some more zing into the segment, which is veering towards SUVs. It is interesting that Tata will be making the car available.
