Honda Activa 5G priced at ₹52,460 (ex-showroom)

Honda Activa 5G has been finally launched. This comes in two variants – STD and DLX. The two variants have additional features. The price starts at Rs 52,460 (ex-showroom). The DLX will be more expensive. The 5G stands for fifth generation, hence the name. The Activa 4G was introduced when BS-IV norms had come in. It had AHO and BS-IV engine. The other changes are very cosmetic and minor. The 5G has a lot more changes than what the current Activa 4G.

So, the Activa 5G got unveiled at the 2018 Auto Expo. The scooter got multiple new features and additions that were needed, and some that were sorely missed. Honda didn’t want to experiment with the scooters design. Thus, there isn’t a major difference in the styling of the Activa 5G if you compare it to it’s predecessor. Honda is looking at enhancing the experience for scooter buyers. There are no major changes on it, though. The Activa 5G also gets a metal body like its earlier models. The metal body has been a big selling point for it. It also gets a BS-IV 110cc engine and more bells and whistles. The Honda brand has seen its major success in India with its comprehensive scooter range. The company still continues to offer the best in class scooters.

The Activa 3G details were first shared by us, then the 4G. Now, the 5G has more equipment as the 4G. The 4G featured an addition of the new BS-IV engine and removal of headlamp on-off switch. Is the Honda Activa 5G better than the Activa 4G?  We share all the details.

Honda Activa 5G 2018 Price in India

There is no a major change in the pricing of the Activa with every new generation.It is still the same. The new Activa 5G’s on road price is about Rs 58,000 for the base model and close to Rs 61,000 for the DX varient.

Honda Activa 5G Variants

There are two variants on offer for the first time. The Activa 5G has Standard and Deluxe variants. Both of them will get LED’s on them. But the deluxe variant will have a digital odometer and switch at the front for opening the seat. The latter has the same features which also come on the Grazia on the Grazia and it has been adopted from there. The difference in pricing of the two variants is about Rs.2000. In the first lot, only the Activa 5G DX will be launched. The Standard version will take some more time. At the moment, Activa 5G DX will be available at showrooms. The standard version on the Activa 5G will come in a couple of months from now. Arrival is expected in May sometime.

Honda Activa 5G vs Activa 4G

The Honda Activa 5G is a facelift over the Activa 4G. There are a few upgrades that the 5G comes with, over the 4G. There is no change in the engine or transmission. The suspension setup also remains unchanged. The good part is that the same tried and tested engine is still part of this new scooter. The additional features make the Activa 5G a more desirable scooter than the Activa 4G. There is the LED headlamp that is the biggest difference, then the new additional chrome add-ons, daytime running LEDs, analog and digital instrument cluster, dual hooks and  of course the new 5G badging. The Activa 5G DX model will get all these features.

Honda Activa 5G Release Date

There hasn’t been any official announcement on its launch date. The new Honda scooter will be coming in by March 2018 from what we understand. The Japanese 2W manufacturer will be more bells and whistles on this scooter. This will make it an exciting package for new scooter buyers. Honda’s bread-and-butter scooter for the Indian market and also the highest selling 2W product in India.

There has been a gradual evolution in the design of the scooter. All the changes on this new scooter have been subtle and one can notice the changes with the moving time. The Activa 5G does look stylish, but it is also one of the coolest looking designs around. If you look at all the generations, there are small changes. When the Activa moved from 3G to 4G, it got very minor cosmetic changes. One of the reasons behind this is the product’s strength. This is something like Coca-Cola. Make no changes and buyers will still love and buy it.

The scooter gets small tweaks but not many of them. These include a minor change in the styling of the black add-ons on its snout. The biggest upgrade on the scooter is the headlamps. The headlamps are refreshed with LEDs. This makes it look different in styling. The Honda Activa 5G comes with the same 10-inch tyre and steel wheels. The side profile remains unchanged. There will be the same side profile. So, the foot-board is low enough making it convenient for shorter people to sit. There is a air intake underneath the seat for the engine.

The rear tyre is also a 10-inch one. The seat is large and comfortable for long trips. Two people can easily sit on it with ease, for long city rides too. The tail lamp is large enough and there aren’t major changes in the design. When you look at the scooter, you will not notice too many changes in it. There are minor differences in the duo. One of the strongest reasons for the Activa to sell, apart from the engine and performance, is the metal body. Buyers prefer metal body over the fiber ones.

Honda Activa 5G Brakes and Suspension

The Activa 4G gets drum brakes on the front and even the rear. There is combi-braking too. A big BUT! The new Honda Activa 5G doesn’t even get telescopic suspension, still. Today all the scooters come with one and the Activa is the only one that doesn’t get one. The best-selling scooter still lacks telescopic suspension. We wonder why is it not being offered on the Activa 5G.

Honda Activa 5G Specifications

The Activa 5G comes with the same 109.7cc engine. This is an air-cooled single-cylinder mill. The new Activa 5G churns about 8bhp of power and there is 8Nm of maximum torque. The engine comes mated to a CVT box. This is a BS-IV engine and there has been no change in the engine tuning or specifications. The update this engine had got last year, the same continues.

The Honda Activa 5G’s engine is one of its strongest selling points. This has a highly responsive engine. Twist the throttle and there is a quick response. The engine has sufficient grunt to overtake with easy in city traffic. There is more than enough power in the scooter to pull cleanly without any kind of struggle or hesitation. This is the HET engine, which has been refined over decades.

Honda Activa 5G Mileage

The Honda promise is to offer best performance and mileage. This scooter comes with a promise to return 60km/l. Now, those are tested under ideal conditions. In real life, the Activa 5G will return close to 40-45km/l. The mileage on this scooter will be about 45km/l on the highway and close to 40km/l in the city.

One of the new additions on the Honda Activa 5G is the instrument cluster. There is a new instrument cluster. The previous one was only analog, but the new one has analog and digital both. It is a mix of the two. There is a dial and even digital bit. The other major change in the 5G scooter is the movement of the seat unlocking. This has been moved to the front, like a switch.

So the Honda Activa 5G has a switch instead of the key slot at the back. So to open the boot you do not need to remove the key from its location. But the fuel tank is still located under the seat. Hence to fill fuel you will have to open the seat. This should also be changed by now. There is a mobile charging point in the Honda Activa5G  but that also comes as an optional accessory. The side stand is also an extra accessory.
