Hyundai has been working on a new range of new vehicles and it will want to be the first mover in the electric vehicle segment before Maruti Suzuki. Hence the company has been considering the XCent electric for the Indian car market. We reckon the initial plan might be get an electric cab, something what Mahindra has been doing with the e-Verito. With mobile-apps like Ola and Uber looking at pushing electric vehicles for cabs in the NCR region, it seems certain that it will trickle to other metro cities also very soon.

Hyundai shall showcase the Kona Electric and Ioniq Electric at the 2018 Auto Expo. One of them will make it into production in 2019. We aren’t certain on when will it be coming in, but the South Korean automaker is considering them for the Indian car market. The race to get into electric is getting intense.

Most of the car makers want to be ready with their electric vehicles to make the first impact.

There is already the Mahindra electric vehicles but the market is still nascent.

Hyundai XCent Electric Launch Date in India

From what we understand, Hyundai will be looking at locally assembling the Kona electric in India. Hence the powertrain will be assembled here. We are predicting that the XCent electric will get the same electric motor, maybe lesser batteries. So our bet is mid of 2019 for the XCent electric to get into production.

Hyundai XCent Electric Price in India

In terms of pricing, the XCent electric will see an increase by a couple of lakhs at least. Hence, the pricing will be in the range of Rs 9-11 lakhs. This is just our calculation. The pricing could be lower also. Hyundai XCent will be looking at offering the best in class pricing and go head on against the e-Verito. The latter is more than 4 metres in length and hence it will not get the pricing advantage. This product will be get Hyundai the numbers but certainly an advantage to understand the electric market.

Hyundai XCent Electric Powertrain

The same electric motor will be used to power the XCent as the Kona. But in terms of performance the XCent will have an advantage. This is because it is lighter and it will also have lesser number of batteries. So, light weight will improve its performance. The lesser number of battery packs will also affect the XCent’s range also. We reckon it might be reduced to 150-200kms on one full charge. This will be the apt figure. Anything lower means a lot more charging will be required.

Hyundai XCent Electric Features

No change in the features on offer. The same bits that are available on the SX(O) will be made available on the XCent Electric too. This should be offered only in a single variant SX(O). Following will be the key features on the XCent Electric.

  • Dual Airbags
  • ABS
  • Touchscreen system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • Reverse Camera
  • Push start and stop
  • Keyless entry
