Hyundai QXi will be an all new SUV for the Indian car market. This will be a compact SUV — mini SUV under 4 metres in length competing with the Vitara Brezza, Nexon and the Ecosport. Here QXi is a code name and it will not be the production version name for this SUV. The Hyundai Carlino concept showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo, is the base for this SUV. In terms of styling it will be muscular and shall be offering boxy and butchy styling. This will be an all new SUV for the Indian car market and should be made on a new platform too.

Hyundai will launch this new SUV in 2019 and it will be coming with an all new petrol engine too. This will be the 1.0-litre turbo petrol churning about 130bhp of power and will come mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Diesel should be the 1.4-litre diesel mill with six-speed manual and automatic options. Hyundai is looking at enhancing its range for the Indian car market and that SUV has been missing. This is a volume segment for the brand.

Hyundai QXi Price in India

Minimum Price ₹ 7 lakhs
Maximum Price ₹ 12 lakhs

*Expected price

Hyundai will have to price it around the Maruti Vitara Brezza as the benchmark. Hence, we reckon this will somewhere in the range of Rs 7 lakhs to Rs 12 lakhs (on-road). Hyundai might price it a tad higher than the Maruti but it will around this number itself. The other important aspect of the Hyundai QXi will its features, variants, transmission options and the quality. This will make it stand out and add more appeal to the product.

Hyundai QXi Launch Date in India

We aren’t certain anything will be showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo, but this new SUV will be launched in 2019 only. This year the brand has its hands filled with many launches, one of them is the return of the Santro. So, 2019 is when one can expect this new SUV to make its presence felt in the Indian car market.

Hyundai QXi Design

In terms of styling expect a subtle version of the Carlino. The layout was set for the QXi, this will be boxy and rugged looking SUV. Something on the lines of the Vitara Brezza than the Nexon or the Honda WRV. Hyundai will offer 16-inch tyres, daytime running LEDs, projector headlamps on this. This will be following the new-gen design language. The front grille will be large and sleek headlamps. Not a lot can be said about this QXi as it is still in initial stages. Things that are expected are high ground clearance of about 200mm.

Power 110 bhp 90-100bhp
Torque 180 Nm 200Nm

The all new engine will be a 1.0-litre turbo petrol churning about 120-130bhp. This is an all new engine and this should be the T-GDi. This will be the turbocharged version of the gasoline direction injection from what we understand. It will come mated to a six-speed manual transmission. There is also likely going to be an automatic transmission too. The 1.4-litre diesel engine will churn close to 90-100bhp of power and it will come mated to six-speed manual transmission. We aren’t certain about the automatic, but we aren’t sure if there will be a diesel auto offering also. There will be a bigger petrol engine also it seems, which will be more affordable.

Hyundai QXi Mileage

Again a tad early to state anything for the petrol engine. But for the diesel, the QXi should have an efficiency of close to 14km/l in the city and close to 17km/l on the highway.

Hyundai QXi Competition

In terms of competition, the QXi will be going up against the Honda WR-V, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford Ecosport and the Tata Nexon. These are the direct competing products with the QXi. The production name will be revealed soon.
