Design

The 2018 Bajaj Avenger 220 Street gets a new headlamp. This headlamp is not round, but slightly oblong. It also gets LED daytime running lights this time. The headlamp bezel is also thick and looks quite tidy. There is a short top cover above the headlamp that gives it a good appeal. It is stylish. The other major change is the introduction of a new instrument pod. This one is a fully digital unit and a departure from the earlier one. It looks modern and has an amber backlighting. The short handlebar remains the same and is nimble enough to ride in city. This makes it a good option to consider especially for those who ride in the city.

The flatter handlebar transforms the riding position and feels just perfect for the cut and thrust conditions of the urban prowl. It gets 12-spoke alloy wheels, just like before. The are black colored ones. The tank follows the matte paint language and looks rather fetching in black. But it gets all new graphics. These graphics are attractive but the styling could have been better. They seem inspired from the V15. The exhaust is also the same and sports a rounded look, with a bulbous end.

This also is colored in matte black. The seat also gets a new cover. It has a dual texture finish, which adds to some more flair.

The tail lamp is also a new one and reminds of the Harley Street 750. It is attractive of sure. Then there is a new grab rail at the rear which is chunky. It has a soft grip as well and looks quite bold.

There is no change in the technical part of the bike. The same 220cc engine comes on it. It gets 18.5bhp of power and 17.5Nm of torque. The 220cc single-cylinder engine on the Avenger has earlier been refined for better performance. Bajaj has retuned the engine not just for performance, but even ease of riding. The throttle response is good and it rides pretty smooth.

The bike feels well planted. The 220 Street feels sure-footed and the bike appears to be at ease in the urban riding conditions. Alloy wheels also help in this. There has been no chang in the engine so it rides just like earlier. However, one change is that the rear suspension has got a longer travel now, hence the ride is now softer.

We were expecting a disc brake at the rear, but it has not come.

Rear braking remains a grey area in this bike as it still is cable operated. hence the bite is missing,
