The new Freestyle is an all new crossover that will be making its way into the Indian car market soon. It will be having higher ground clearance, additional features and improved ground clearance too. Images of this new vehicle had leaked recently. Ford India is looking at adding more options into the Indian car market with this new cross. This will be affordable than the Ecosport but will be priced higher than the Figo.

Ford Freestyle Walkaround Video

Built on the Figo platform, this will be an all new product with similar dimensions to the Figo. Soon a facelift is expected and we predict this new Cross will make its way sometime by mid 2018. There will be many additional bits on this vehicle as Ford will be gearing up to add more sales in this segment. The new cross should see some increment in its ground clearance. Ford will offer a stylish cabin with all the bells and whistles one is looking for at this price.

There shall be a 1.2-litre Dragon petrol engine, which will be a new engine. This will churn about 95bhp of power and will be a 3-cylinder mill. In terms of transmission, there shall be a five-speed manual. Ford claims this will be a new transmission. We reckon the same one that is offered with the Dragon engine on the Ecosport as well. There will be a 1.5-litre petrol automatic on offer. For diesel lovers, the 1.5-litre diesel engine will be made available churning about 98bhp of power and close to 215Nm of torque. This will also be offered with a five-speed manual. No diesel automatic folks.

Ford Freestyle Design

This is a cross derived from the Figo. Hence, it has its styling similar. This can be looked at as Figo on steroids. There will be the facelift design of the Figo with the addition of a body kit. The kit should include higher ground clearance, front spoiler, side body kit on the rocker. The same will continue on the rear as well. This will make the Figo look aggressive. The front grille will be blacked out. The grille will be larger and will be honeycomb one. There will be black strips running across the vehicle from the bonnet to the roof till the tail gate. There will be a chrome strip on the glass area on the side profile.

The alloy wheels will be 16-inch ones, while the Figo and the Aspire will now get 15-inch wheels. This will be bigger and will somewhat raise the suspension. The other important aspect of the Freestyle will be its subtle design. It will not be too loud in the face types, more of small bits added to make it stand out and look sporty.

Ford Freestyle Interior

On the inside, all new interior will be offered. There shall be stylish dashboard. This will be similar to the new Ecosport. It will offer a large touchscreen system with Android Auto and even Apple CarPlay. There shall also be more features on offer like reverse camera, push start and stop, climate control and even six airbags. The interiors of the Freestyle will see a new dashboard, apart from that it will be the same like the Figo. This will be all black interiors. There will be spacious front seats, while the rear will be decent in knee room and head room for tall passengers.

The Freestyle could be offered with rear AC vents. We expect modern hatches to offer this, as it is becoming the norm of the day. There will be more than sufficient space in the boot too. The rear seats will fold 60:40 and they will fold flat.

In terms of engines, the Ford Freestyle shall be offering a 1.2-litre Dragon petrol engine that will churn about 95bhp of power and it will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission. This is an all new engine and it will be three-cylinder one. In terms performance it will see an improvement over the existing ti-VCT engine. There will be better performance and more at the lower engine speeds. This will make it easier to drive in the city and even cruise on the highway. We aren’t certain if the Freestyle will even get a 1.5-litre petrol automatic or a 1.2-litre. But there will be a petrol engine with automatic on offer. The DCT will no longer will be made available in the Figo or any of its derivative products.

The 1.5-litre diesel engine will churn about 98bhp of power and close to 215Nm of torque. This will be offered with a five-speed manual and no automatic. Ford will not be getting a diesel automatic anytime soon. As the market has moved on to petrol powered engines, Ford will be focusing more on petrol than diesel.

Ford Freestyle Mileage

Now, the next main question is mileage. The Freestyle with its petrol engine will return close to 11-12km/l in the city and about 15km/l on the highway. Then the diesel engine will be close to 15km/l in the city and about 19km/l on the highway. This will make it an exciting product on offer for the Indian car market.
