Mahindra XUV800 – What is it?

Mahindra’s plan to focus on SUVs has paid great dividends to the brand. It has firmly established itself at the number 4 spot and is now looking to break into the top-3 race. For that, the brands know it needs to nail their EVs. Last year, it showcased five new eSUVs. Now one of them could be named, as the title suggests, XUV800. In today’s article, let’s talk about the Mahindra XUV800.

Last year, Mahindra showcased its five new EV concepts in London. One of the concepts was the XUV.e8. Mahindra had stated that this would be an electric SUV similar in size to the XUV700. Even the prototype shown by Mahindra was an XUV700 converted to an e8. But how do we know it is called the XUV800? Mahindra is one brand that follows a fixed template in its naming scheme. It seems like the odd numbers are for ICE cars, while even numbers are for EVs. For e.g, the XUV300 is an ICE car, while the XUV400 is an EV. Following the same nameplate, the XUV700 is an ICE car and the XUV.e8 could become the XUV800. 

Mahindra XUV800 – Interior & features 

The e8 concept had a similar interior layout as the XUV700 other than the most prominent change which is the infotainment system. The new XUV.e8 is likely to have a colossal screen covering the whole dashboard. For those, who were thinking that the XUV700 had big screens, the new XUV.e8/XUV800 would house larger screens than that. For reference, it could have three horizontally laid-out 12.3-inch screens with more functions. Other features could include a HUD with augmented reality, new connected car features, an advanced navigation system, and more.

Specifications

Under the hood, the e8/XUV800 could come with an 80kWh battery pack. Power figures of the e8/XUV800 could range from 225bhp to 345bhp. Transmission-wise it would be offered with an e-drive automatic. What about charging? It would have fast charging capabilities, which can charge the EV from 0% to 80 % in just 30 minutes.

Mahindra XUV800 – Launch and pricing 

Mahindra has stated that it plans to launch the XUV.e8/XUV800 by December 2024. Now this launch timeline depends on a lot of factors and it could be preponed or postponed depending upon the development. Also, by then, Mahindra could change several aspects of this car. As for the pricing, it could start from somewhere around Rs 28 lakh (ex-showroom prices) depending upon the variants and model.
