Jeep UConnect can be used to hack your vehicle

There is a video from Wired that shows how a Jeep Cherokee system can be hacked though internet. Everything in the vehicle can be controlled by a computer, which isn’t even in the vehicle. The video showcases how a Jeep Cherokee was hacked through the UConnect.

The hackers mention that it wasn’t very difficult to get through the system.

Apparently, once you get into the system you can even control various aspects of the vehicle. This even includes steering wheel at low speeds, braking, music system, AC blower, instrument cluster and other electricals too. If you have a look at the video, it clearly shows how the two people controlled the Jeep Cherokee, even when they were not in the vehicle.

They were miles away sitting in-door, while the driver was out with the Jeep on the freeway. The video even states that they have already shared this information with the company, and most of the Chrysler products are venerable to such an attack. The patch has been found, not sure if its temporary or permanent.

Are Jeep Compass buyers in India safe?

Luckily for India, Jeep isn’t offering the large 8.4-inch touchscreen system with internet connectivity. To hack it needs the additional Wi-Fi system, which the Indian car buyers do not get. This makes it safer for the Indian audience. The UK market, which will get the Ranjangaon manufactured vehicle will have the same larger touchscreen system, diesel automatic and even sunroof on offer.  For India, the diesel will be offered with a manual for the time being. Recently, the brand had announced recall for 1200 units of Compass due to faulty airbag as a precaution.
