Nitin Gadkari, Transport Minister has appealed to citizens to click pictures of cars which are wrongly parked. On sending these pics to the authorities, they shall get a 10 per cent reward from the fine of INR 500 imposed on the owner of that car. The instances of cars parked wrongly are increasing by the day and is becoming a nuisance to all citizens.

Nitin Gadkari said, “In my Motor Vehicle Act, I am going to add one law (provision). Any car on road, you just take the photo on your mobile and send it to the department concerned or Police. There will be INR 500 fine and 10 per cent will go to the complainant.” He also added that he felt “ashamed” that absence of parking lots outside his own Ministry forced “ambassadors” and “big people” to park on road blocking the way to Parliament. “No parking places are available. People are using roads for that,” he said. As per him,big institutions should have their own parking places.

Gadkari also said, “Every day it is shameful for me…the Ambassadors are coming … the big people are coming. In front of Parliament, my total road is blocked and for getting permission to build a parking place I needed 13 permissions.” He said it took months to take permission for constructing a single parking lot and he had raised the issue with the then Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu.

During the foundation ceremony of the automated multi level car parking facility, Gadkari had remarked on the delay in getting permissions. This had prompted Naidu to promise a grant within a month to all such demands. The Transport Bhawan will be the first government building to have an automated multi level car parking facility in its premises. The cost of this facility is around INR 9 crore. NHIDCL, which has taken the responisibility of building this, will be making ground plus seven floors. The parking will be spread over an area of 314 sq metres and with a height of 22 metres. It can fit in around 112 cars. The cars can be accessed within two minutes.

A new bill aims at some reforms in the transport sector. This ranges from hefty fines for traffic rules violations to improving the licensing system and also cracking on forged licenses.

  • Its very natural that the govt is asking citizens to send pictures of wrongly parked vehicles, however let me ask you sir, how many places are actually designated as parking places for four and two wheeler’s. Its so easy for you to say NO PARKING, however I never get to see YES PARKING anywhere and even if it do, if I have to take a comparison between NO PARKING BOARDS AND PARKING boards I think the former would win 100 : 0.0001.
Also why should we citizens help, shouldn’t the govt be installing CCTV cameras for the security and safety of all. But NO, this you wont do. We have to spend for you, you don’t want even spend a penny from your pocket. Why don’t you drive by yourself to Matunga market in Mumbai, park the vehicle legally and buy your groceries. I bet, they will have to shut out everybody else just to get you in, that’s the tragedy.
