The Fiat Cronos has finally been unveiled. This sedan is based on the Argo hatchback. The Cronos is the new generation Linea and will be replacing it internationally. Whether this will come to India is yet to be seen. But as per our knowledge, Fiat is contemplating a refresh of its Line up in India by 2019. Right now the company is focusing on the Jeep brand.

Fiat has always made exciting cars. The Uno when launched, had set benchmarks in terms of space, ride and handling and even diesel performance. The Palio swept the market when launched and was considered a benchmark at that time. Then came the Linea and the Punto, which were also stylish and were packed with many first-in class features. But they weren’t fast and lagged in the performance department. Till the time T-Jet came, it was a tad bit late. The competition had caught up. There was similar performing petrol engines and more powerful diesels. Now that the Linea has grown old, the Brazilian market will get the Fiat Cronos — replacement for the Linea. An India launch is yet unknown.

Fiat Cronos Launch Date

The Fiat Cronos will be available in Brazil from early next year. This is based on the Argo platform and share many mechanicals as well. Fiat may look at getting this car to India to replace the Linea, however, that will not be before 2019.

Specifications

The engines are likely to be the 1.3-litre Firefly producing 101bhp at 6,000 rpm. A 1.8-litre E.torQ flex-fuel engine options is another option. These aren’t there in India and we aren’t certain if Fiat will be getting any new vehicles to India anytime soon.

Design

Fiat-Cronos 2

It looks similar to the Argo from the front, but it gets some different treatment. The front grille is a new one . It has a fine mesh and also get a chrome strip running in the middle. This makes it look more premium and matured. It gets a sharp headlamp design with daytime running LEDs. The side profile looks smart and well-proportioned. It will be offered with a range of features like UConnect and similar features to the Argo. Italians know how to design a vehicle and Fiat is a good example of that.

Fiat Cronos coming to India?

This is an all new platform, even if the new-gen vehicle has to come to India on the existing SCA platform, it will need at least a couple of years to develop and test. At the moment, all their energies are focused on the Jeep brand. Rather the Compass. There is still some time for the Compass diesel automatic to come in. Then there are still thoughts on to get the Compass Trailhawk to India anytime soon. The Renegade is another product that is due to come in, but it seems that the launch should be pushed to late 2018 or early 2019. India might not be on Fiat’s chart to get this new sedan anytime soon. What’s more, the company will have to set-up dealerships for Fiat, so that will also take time. With no new products in hand, it can be challenge to set-up stand-alone Fiat dealerships. If they need to get this new vehicle to India, dealership and product development will have to start immediately.  All Fiat fanboys, we can just hope some new Fiat cars for you.
