Jeep Compass Trailhawk delayed: to launch next year

The Jeep Compass Trailhawk was expected to be launched by mid 2018. But this has been delayed. It seems that this SUV will be launched by early next year. We were the first to reveal that the Trialhawk will be launched in India. One of the reasons in delay in the launch is the capacity utilization for the domestic market. The Compass will now finally come with an automatic in the diesel version. There will also be a sunroof offered.

The Trailhawk will come with many features and will be a hardcore off-roader. It will have a proper 4X4 system, with low range. Now, this will not come cheap and is expected to cost Rs.30 lakhs, approximately. This SUV is currently being built for exports. The Ranjangaon plant of Fiat is where this is made. The Trailhawk is the range-topping variant of the Compass. The Trailhawk will come with increased ground clearance for better off-roading. 

Jeep Compass Trailhawk Launch Date

The Jeep Compass Trailhawk will likely be launched by January 2019. This is when the diesel automatic will also be offered for the first time in the Compass. The deliveries will begin shortly after the launch.

Jeep Compass Trailhawk Price in India

As this is an all new variant, it will offer additional features and even come with an automatic. Though the company has not yet disclosed the price, we expect it to be under Rs.30 lakhs. With new added features and mechanical bits, the Compass Trailhawk will be more expensive than the standard version.

Jeep Compass Trailhawk Specifications

The Compass Trailhawk will be coming with a 2.0-litre multijet diesel engine that will churn about 170bhp of power. With a maximum torque of 350Nm it will have sufficient grunt. This engine will come mated to a nine-speed transmission. We aren’t certain if there will be a boost in its performance, but there will be improvement in its off road capability.

This drivetrain comes with Jeep’s Active Drive Low-Range 4WD and a new Rock mode too. The diesel engine may be chosen for the Indian market if it comes here. The transmission options on the two engines are six-speed manual and seven-speed DCT on petrol, while diesel has nine-speed.

The styling more or less remains the same. It gets some additions on the hood and there are different, bold alloy wheels. The engine is the same 2.0-litre diesel and this will be offered with a nine-speed automatic. The ground clearance will see an increase of 20mm. This will change the approach and departure angles of the Compass. The Trailhawk will also come with hill descent control, dual tone black and silver shades, black painted anti-glare decals and even red recovery hooks. This will be an affordable proper off-road from Jeep. The diesel automatic will be launched with the Trailhawk, as this version comes only with an automatic. 

Jeep Compass Trailhawk Dimensions

There shall be no difference in the dimensions of the vehicle. There will be an increase in ground clearance by 20mm. This will improve its ability to off road. We reckon the tyres will be a size larger on this variant.

Braking system

In terms of brakes, the front and the rear both shall offer disc brakes. There will be no difference at all.

Suspension

The Compass comes with McPherson struts with lower arm disc at the front and the rear has multi-link with struts. The same set-up will be carried forward. There shall be some change in the suspension tuning only.

Jeep Compass Trailhawk Interior

There will not be any major difference inside. The interiors of this variant are expected to be all black and may offer red inserts at places. This will make it an exciting version on offer. The bells and whistles will be similar to the regular version. There shall be no change in it. It will have keyless entry, push start stop and touchscreen system with UConnect. There shall be reverse camera, navigation and even leather upholstery. In terms of space, the Compass Trailhawk is identical to the regular Compass.

Jeep Compass Trailhawk Exterior

There is no major difference on the outside, apart from cosmetic changes. The first biggest change is the alloy wheel design. This is a five-spoke one and it will be black in colour. There will be redesigned front and rear bumpers with skid plates too. A part of the bonnet has black paint. There will be dual-tone black and silver colour option, recovery hooks, all-weather floor mats on offer too. The added 20mm will make it look taller and have more road presence.
