When an ambulance was on its way for an emergency duty,  a Ford Ecosport was there who wasn’t giving way at all. Nirmal Jose from Kochi has been identified as the driver for that vehicle. There are reports that he has been arrested for the same. The driver was even going with hazard lights on, which also didn’t give out a right message either.

After seeing the video, it is clear that the Ford Ecosport wasn’t letting the ambulance pass at point of time. The emergency vehicle was honking and was asking for way to be given as a sign. But the driver did not let them through.  However, one thing wasn’t clear if the Ecosport delayed the ambulance as it was clearly a lot faster than the ambulance.

As per the ambulance driver Madhu, Jose did cause a delay of about 15 minutes by not letting him pass. This ambulance was carrying a new born baby, which did suffer from breathing. This baby was being taken from an hospital in Perumbavoor to Kalamassery Medical College. The baby was in a critical stage.

The Kerala Police has charged Jose not just for negligent but even for rash driving. He was arrested and later on, let-off as well.

His Ecosport has been seized and the Aluva Joint RTO, CS Ayyappan has given a statement on suspension of the driver’s license for a period of three months. RTO has also asked Jose to attend the awareness class that is conducted by the RTO itself.

As the law goes, every driver has to give way for emergency vehicles, especially when its an ambulance or even a fire brigade vehicle. The driver’s job is to move to the left so that the emergency vehicle can then pass them. In India it seems to be a different story. Many of the people stick to their lanes and do not attempt to even move aside. The right thing to do is make way for the emergency vehicle even when there is traffic on the road.
