Renault had recently revealed that the Kwid platform will be used to spawn new vehicles for the Indian market. One of these vehicles will be a new compact MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle). As part of their ‘Drive the Future’ plan for the years 2017-2022. The Renault Kwid has been a very successful car in the Indian market owing to factors like its affordability, design, features etc. Renault hopes to bring these traits into the new MPV they are planning on the same platform (CMF-A).

Currently, amongst affordable MPVs, it is the Maruti Ertiga that rules the market, while the Toyota Innova Crysta, which is the most popular MPV caters to customers at a much higher price point. There have been others like the Datsun Go Plus, which tried offering more utility with a 5+2 seater, however it met luke-warm success, that too only in certain pockets. Renault is planning the new MPV which will fill the void and offer an affordable and a spacious vehicle to Indian buyers.

New Renault MPV Launch Date

The Kwid based MPV will be launched by end of 2019. Currently the vehicle is under design development. Localisation and other developments will take in excess of an year. While the MPV segment as a whole is not doing too well in India, Renault would look at changing this with an affordable and stylish vehicle.

Renault new MPV Design

Not much is yet known on the design front, but its is evident that it will be a spacious seven-seater vehicle. The wheelbase will be extended and the vehicle will have a high ground clearance as well. Thierry Bolloré, Chief Competitive Officer of Groupe Renault, said, “We will launch a compact MPV in the Indian market, a car to transport many adults but in less than 4 meters length.”

Being sub-4 metres will give it the pricing advantage over competition. Renault will also try to offer attractive styling to this MPV. Needless to say that it will come with features which will be a modern and useful. The vehicle will have a short front end and it will be tall, making ingress and egress easy.

Renault Kwid based MPV Interiors

The interiors of this MPV are expected to be high on utility. It will offer a good amount of storage spaces. The dashboard layout will be modern and will come with a new touchscreen system. The interiors will be spacious and it will have a 6 and 7 seater option. The new MPV will be affordable so do not expect high quality of materials. They will be durable, though. The biggest USP of this MPV will be the utility it will offer. It will offer safety features like dual airbags and ABS. Renault will introduce customized accessory packs for this vehicle .

Renault new MPV Engine

The engine options are yet not clear for new Renault MPV. However, we think it will get a 1.2-litre petrol engine with around 80bhp of power. A 1.5-litre diesel engine will also be available on this vehicle with the 85bhp state of tune. Transmission options will include a 5-speed and 6-speed manual and there might also be a possibility of an AMT to be included.

New Renault MPV Mileage

Petrol 11-14km/l
Diesel 14-18km/l

This new MPV should return around 11-14 km/l for the petrol version, in a mix of city and highway driving. The diesel will be slightly more frugal with around 14-18km/l of mileage in real driving conditions.
