New Maruti Wagon R 2019 spied in production guise

The Maruti Wagon R 2019 is expected to be launched next year. India’s favorite hatchback will now get an upgrade. The new Maruti Wagon R 2019 will not be an entirely new generation car though. It will receive major tweaks. But it will be based on the same platform as the current car. Maruti Suzuki has been working on several new products and the Wagon R is one of them. The Maruti Wagon R 2019 has also been spied testing, on various occasions. The Maruti Wagon R 2019 enjoys a distinction as it has a class of its own. It also offers unparalleled practicality, which is why it sells in high numbers. The Maruti Wagon R 2019 will be containing with the same platform, unlike what was believed earlier that it will be based on the Heartect platform. The new model will get some feature upgrades though. It will also have better safety and will meet the new crash test norms. The Wagon R will not utilize the new platform as it was changing the cost structure a lot. Therefore the company has not adopted the new Heartect platform for the Maruti Wagon R 2018. The current platform will get certain modifications, though. The engine will also remain the same. This is a 1.0-litre petrol engine that has been doing duty in the Wagon R. This engine is a good performer and it powers the highest selling cars of Maruti.

The last update of the Wagon R took place in 2010. Now it is time for another major update. The Maruti Wagon R 2019 will be positioned in between the Celerio and the Alto. The USP of this car has been the tall boy design and it will continue to be that way. Many people, especially the elderly prefer it for easy ingress and egress.

Some proportions might change, however, the tall body design will be retained. The car will still look boxy. This is the reason why it is so spacious. The practicality of the car will be retained but it will get enhanced styling to make it more attractive and modern. In terms of features, this new car will get richer. The all new Maruti Wagon R 2019 will be offered with more features than the current one. 

New Wagon R 2019 On Road Price

The prices will not change much. There may be a new top-end variant. This will mean that it will have more features and be more expensive. This is the variant that will be a game changer for the Maruti Wagon R 2019. A important talking point certainly for the new model. Maruti is looking at enhancing its game with its new vehicle. There shall be CNG and AMT available on the mid-level variants. The AMT may also be made available in the top variant, as the demand for AMT is rising. Similarly, Maruti will focus on proving more CNG variants as well.

We expect the new-generation of the Maruti Wagon R 2019 to make it to India by the middle of next year. Maruti will have to make multiple changes on it to make it suited for India. Maruti Wagon R 2019 Mileage

The mileage of the new Maruti Wagon R 2019 should be somewhere close to 14km/l in the city for the manual petrol. It will be close to 13km/l for the AMT. The CNG will return approximately 30km/kg. On the highway, the Wagon R will return about 18km/l on the manual and AMT petrol. The new-gen vehicle showcased in Japan is not the one that will make it to India. For the Indian car market, the new Wagon R will be undergoing some updates in its design. The current model has begun to look dated and so a new one will come in its place.

In the engine department, there shall be no changes. The same 1.0-litre K-Series engine will be powering the Wagon R 2019. This has been a good performer hence there is no reason to change. There will be no difference in power and tuning. It will produce 68bhp of power and 90Nm of maximum torque. This engine will be offered with a five-speed manual and AMT option. It will be a good performer as earlier. There will be a CNG option too. The Wagon R CNG sells good numbers.

Maruti Wagon R 2019 Interiors

The current Japanese version looks plush and comfortable. There is an all-new steering wheel with multiple controls. The instrument cluster will be on the driver’s side. The interiors will have black and beige interiors. These will be the aspect that shall get multiple changes. In India, Wagon R isn’t sold as a luxurious option,  it is purpose driven and practical. A touchscreen audio maybe is offered this time, however only on the top variant.

Space will be the selling point. The front and the rear seats will have ample headroom and knee room. There will be no compromise on the space front. This time we reckon even the boot shall be slightly larger. The Maruti Wagon R 2019 shall be more comfortable. The Maruti Wagon R 2019 will have dual airbags and ABS as a standard feature. There will be an integrated 2 DIN system with Bluetooth, aux and USB. Steering audio controls, reverse sensors and even keyless entry will be offered too. The steering wheel is expected to be shared with the Ignis. There could be an option of a touchscreen too for the top-end model.

Maruti Wagon R 2019 Design

In terms of styling, there will be a heavy modification from the Japanese Wagon R. The Maruti Wagon R 2019 for India will not look the way it is in the pics. The fascia will be similar to the current one. The styling will be according to Indian customer preferences. There might be some additional chrome too. A large front grille with the S logo, followed by a smaller one underneath. The headlamps will be rectangular. The fog lamps will be just under the lights, not on the bumper. The front bumper will have wide dams. This will make the Maruti Wagon R 2019 look fresh and modern.

The side profile looks different too. There are several aspects that make it stand out. This also looks different, especially the rear window. The rear of the Maruti Wagon R 2019 looks different and it might be changed for the Indian market. The positioning of the tail lamps will be changed. The current design is trendy, it will be made more subtle and serious. The one in Japan has LED headlamps, daytime running LEDs and other features. Maruti Wagon R 2019 Specifications

A 1.0-liter three-cylinder K-Series engine will be used on the 2019 Wagon R. This engine will be the same as the current one. However, it will be tweaked for better performance. The engine will be tuned for better drivability as well. It will not require frequent gear shifts. The NVH levels of this engine are already low. This engine will come with a five-speed manual and AMT option. AMT version is going to get more popular in this car.

A CNG variant shall be offered too. This will be a good option for those looking at a lot of city driving. However, it will come only with a manual transmission. No AMT will be offered on this one. The Maruti Wagon R 2019 in Japan gets a smaller engine. In India, it will continue with the 1.0-liter engine. Maruti is looking at moving towards electric vehicles and it might skip other new petrol and diesel engines unless it has invested in them.
