Toyota Yaris Ativ sedan has been spotted, coming at 2018 Auto Expo
Toyota Yaris Ativ is likely to enter the Indian market instead of the Vios. It has been spotted on test on Indian road conditions. Even the Toyota Vios was earlier on spotted on test. But it seems that the Yaris Ativ will be coming its way into India. This is a more viable car to manufacture and is also likely to replace the Vios in certain markets. The Vios is currently sold in many countries, however, in the long run the Yaris Ativ is a more economical solution for the company. The sedan has seen rapid growth in Thailand. This could prompt Toyota to think of introducing it in the Indian market.
The Yaris Ativ may replace the Etios, which aimed at being phased out by 2020. This is also a time when the new BS-VI norms will be implemented. Toyota would want to consolidate its position in the volume segment. The Etios has been losing out on sales and the company is planning for a new product in the hatchback and sedan segment . The introduction of the Yaris Ativ will make it easier for Toyota to also launch the Yaris hatchback, which is one its best sellers internationally. The Yaris Ativ is built on a platform which is economical and currently used globally. This will bring in economies of scale for the manufacturer.
The Yaris Ativ sold in Thailand is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine which has 87bhp of power. It comes with a CVT transmission. For the Indian market, Toyota may also get the 1.4-litre diesel engine with a higher state of tune than the Etios. The car will get both manual and automatic transmissions. Toyota Yaris Ativ India Launch Date
Toyota would look at getting this car by early 2018 to India. The unveil will happen at the 2018 Auto Expo. This vehicle is due to take the centre stage for Toyota India. The Etios sedan is currently selling, however it is mainly present in the commercial space. Toyota would want to bring in private buyers back to its fold and hence will look at getting this car at the earliest, before the Etios is phased out.

The Toyota Yaris Ativ will be priced between ₹ 9 lakhs to 15 lakhs on road. The pricing of the car will be between the compact sedans and the larger sedans. At the moment this segment is dominated by Honda City.

Toyota will plonk in the new 1.5-litre unit that it has developed for the Yaris globally.The petrol will get a 5-speed manual and also CVT automatic option in terms of transmissions. This will be a good performer and competitive enough to take on the competition. It will be a new generation of engine, hence more power than the Etios 1.5-litre petrol. This engine will also be BS-VI compliant. Toyota is planning on diesel engine too but not at the moment. The diesel will only get a 5-speed manual transmission and we reckon the power will see a bump from the current 90bhp.

The Yaris Ativ petrol will return around 11 km/l in the city and around 14km/l on the highway. The Automatic will have a mileage of 9km/l in the city and around 12km/l on the highway. On the other hand, the diesel will return 13km/l in the city and 18km/l on the highway. These are figures in real driving conditions. The claimed mileage will be higher.
Toyota Yaris Ativ India Design
The Toyota Yaris Ativ takes its inspiration from the Toyota Corolla. The front sees a pair of sleek looking headlamps. These get projector lamps. There is a bold looking grille fwhich has chrome bars on either sides. The LED daytime running lights are fitted on the the bumper. There are fog lamps below with vertical bezels and a well-sculpted bonnet. The car looks pretty aggressive from the front with a broad lower grille with horizontal slats and a red garnish strip at the lower end of this grille.
From the side, the car gets sharp lines running across the length of the car. It comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, chrome door handles and ORVMs. At the rear, the Toyota Yaris Ativ gets large wraparound tailllamps, It reminds of the Corolla again. A broad bumper also adds to a stronger look. Overall the car looks sporty and quite premium.

Toyota Yaris Ativ India Interiors
The interiors of the Yaris Ativ are quite premium looking. In India it may get a two tone black and beige colour theme. The car will get leather trim on the top variant. There is a 7-inch touchscreen multimedia system which has six speakers. It will have features like Mirror Link and Android Auto along with navigation and a reverse camera. The Yaris Ativ top variant will come equipped with seven airbags. Dual Airbags and ABS with EBD will be standard across all variants.
Toyota Yaris Ativ Competition
The Yaris Ativ will mainly compete with the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz and Hyundai Verna. It will also look at eating into some share of the compact sedans. Pricing of the car will be key to attract customers to this sedan over competition.
