After a long conservation with Renault’s MD and CEO Sumit Sawhney, we did ask him a few questions about the Captur. This was a short conference he had with us, explaining more about the Renault brand and what all is on offer.

Renault Captur will be targeting buyers who are looking at more style and glam than basic ruggedness. The Captur will be more premium on the inside and shall offer more features too. We also asked him on the Renault Captur AMT and got a good enough answer on it.

We have understood a few things and following are the possibilities of what Renault will be doing with the Captur brand. Following are the answers

Renault Captur AMT

This isn’t happening at all. Renault is targeting premium car buyers with the Captur and it will not get the AMT technology for this kind of SUV. There should be a petrol CVT and for diesel if it ever comes, it will be the diesel automatic.

But, there are no plans to get the AMT on the Captur at any point of time. Renault plans to continue with its Captur and Duster sales.

Duster will be offered with AMT and even the AWD option as well.

Renault Captur AWD

It doesn’t seem to be on the cards at the moment. Renault will want to continue with the sales of the Captur with the front-wheel drive atleast for the time being. There might not be an AWD, and Renault should ideally stick to the Duster for the AWD version.

Renault Captur turbo petrol in India

No plans on this too. Renault believes as of today, Indian SUV market is dominated by diesels and it will stick to giving a better packaged diesel engine. The petrol engine is competitive and ideal for the kind of buyers who pick petrols.

Renault Captur CVT

Yes, Renault is considering CVT on the Captur, but that is purely for the petrol engine. This might not be offered on multiple variants.
