The Tata Tigor EV has been spied in Mumbai by our reader Pratish. The car was spotted while being transported on a flatbed truck in Thane. The vehicle seems to be in transit to one of the dealerships in Mumbai. This is the first time that a sale ready Tigor EV has been spotted on the road. Recently, Tata Motors had bagged an order of 10,000 units for the Indian car market which was a major order for the company. Tata Motors is moving towards electric vehicles and there is no doubt in that.

On Thursday  Tata Motors has announced a price cut of 80,000 on its EV. This is on the regard of government decision to bring down the GST on Electric vehicles by 5%. Tata Motors had bagged an order for electric vehicles. They have to supply 10,000 units of the Tigor EV to the government.  This price cut will be across all variants of Tigor EV.

This is a Rs 1,120 crore tender and the order consists to deliver 10,000 units of the electric Tigor at a price of Rs 10.16 lakhs, without GST. Tata had quoted the lowest price owing to which they have won this race, amongst other companies. This tender had Mahindra and Mahindra and even Nissan competing for it. In the end, it went to Tata Motors. This has helped the company to boost its infrastructure to build electric vehicles

Tata Tigor EV Price in India

As electric vehicles attract the least amount of taxation and even the on-road tax is fairly low, the pricing of this new Tigor electric should be about Rs 11.5 lakhs (on-road). This might come down with time as more and more electric vehicles are manufactured and production cost comes down. The electric vehicles will become more affordable. The government needs to work on the charging bit for all the electric vehicles. This makes it an exciting package. The XM variant costs Rs 9.99 lakh while the XT comes in at Rs 10.09 lakh. The FAME2 subsidy amounts to Rs 1.62 lakh. A three-year or 1.25 lakh kilometre warranty is available with the sedan.

Tata Tigor EV Variants

Specific to the EESL order, the Tigor EV will be delivered in three trim variants – Base, Premium and High and will be available in ‘Pearlescent White’ colour with blue decals. Over the basic requirements of the tender, the Tigor EV, across the variants, would have FATC (Fully Automatic AC) to provide maximum comfort to its occupants. Equipped with a single speed, automatic transmission, the Tigor EV will also allow the customers to enjoy the driving experience, maximized efficiency and seamless acceleration.

According to the new updates, tata has introduced this vehicle for private buyers. This has been done to introduce people with an electric vehicle. This will also be a good way to test their electric Ziptronic platform before launching it in the Nexon EV. The Tigor EV is available in 3 variants. The prices vary from 12 to 14 lakhs. The electric drive systems for the Tigor EV is developed and supplied by Electra EV – a company established to develop and supply electric drive systems for the automotive sector. There will be not many variants on offer. The Tigor EV will have only one variant. This trim will offer all the bells and whistles in this segment. The Tigor electric will offer all the features it does on the current XZ(O) variants.

This will be similar to the Tiago EV. This variant will produce about 85kW of maximum torque and it will be churning close to 200Nm of maximum torque. The Tigor EV will have a range of 100kms and it will have a top speed of 135km/hr. The Tata Tigor electric will do 0-100km/hr in 11 seconds. This battery pack will be cooled by liquid not air to reduce the noise. This will come with a single-speed automatic transmission.

Tata Tiago EV was showcased at the Auto Expo 2018. It had attracted a lot of people who visited the stall. Tata Motors CEO and MD Guenter Butschek had stated that this tender will improve e-mobility and even help to enhance the electric vehicles infrastructure in India. The company will work on localising the same technology for the Tigor and even look at future sales of the electrically powered hatchback and sedan in India.

There shall be no change in the dimensions of the Tata Tigor. It will be offering the same length and the ground clearance will also remain the same. In terms of weight, it will see an increment by some amount. But that should be it. The tyres on offer will be 14-inch from what we understand looking at the images of the Tigor EV that has been delivered.

Tata Tigor Electric Design

The Tigor Electric will have a humanity front grille with pulled back and smoked out headlamps. The front fog lamps will be round with chrome surround. There will be more 15-inch wheels on offer. There will be no change in the side profile of the Tigor. The ground clearance will remain the same at 170mm. The wing mirrors will have integrated side indicators. There will be the sporty fastback look.

The vehicle gets good EV decals. This also gets a different grille. The Stylish Sharkfin Antenna will be seen on the vehicle. Along with this, a high mounted stop light will be seen. The car will be seen in 3 different colours which will be different from the regular model.

The rear will continue to be the same attract one. Fuel lid will be replaced with an electric charging point. The tail lamps will have LEDs to reduce power consumption. The fastback look of the Tigor will be retained. We reckon the Tigor will continue to offer 15-inch wheels with diamond cut design to its electric Tigor buyers.

Tata Tigor EV Interior

The Tigor EV interior will not change. There shall be two differences – one is the new gear knob, which will be circular and the instrument cluster will change as well. These will be the major changes inside. Apart from this, everything else remains the same. The steering wheel, same music system with touchscreen and reverse camera will be the bells and whistles. The seats will be fabric and the safety features will include dual airbags and ABS with EBD. Apart from this there will nothing major in addition on the Tigor EV. The boot space will continue to be 419 litres, the biggest in this segment. As it is under 4 metres, it will get tax benefit making it an exciting package for me.

The interiors of the vehicle for private buyers include classic black and grey interiors. This will also have a sound system by Harman. The height adjustable seats will be given along with a superior fabric.

Tata Tigor EV Battery

The Tata Tigor EV gets an 85kW electric motor that has 200Nm of maximum torque. This drivetrain set-up has a range of about 100 kilometres, does 0-100km/hr in about 11 seconds and has a top speed of about 135km/hr. This shall be the same config for the Tigor too. Maybe some changes in the range, and it could see an improvement. There will be lithium-ion batteries used on the Tigor EV. The battery will get 2 charging points. Tata Tigor EV Mileage

Now, the electric vehicle does not have mileage. We have added this section as many people have inquired about this. The Tigor EV will not have any kind of mileage as no fuel is added in litres or even gallons. Tigor gets a range of distance to empty of electric charge. It has a range of 100kms on one charge.

Tata Tigor EV Special Offer

As per the tender, Tata Motors will deliver the first 500 units until November 2017 and the remaining 9,500 units in the next nine months of the intent letter. These electric vehicles will be used by the state-run government Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL). These will be used directly by the state or leased out for usage. This was an international bidding opportunity and with Tata taking the win, it was a proud moment for the Indian automotive industry.

At the moment, the Nano GenX, the Tiago and the regular version of the Tigor are manufactured in Sanand. The Sanand plant is capable of manufacturing about 2.5 lakh units annually. From the current reports its clear that the new Tigor electric will be manufactured in Sanand as the platform is built here, making it more easier to make the electric powertrain.
