The 2019 Maruti Baleno was recently launched. The car has now been given another update in the form of a Smart Hybrid variant. Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch new 1.2-liter DUALJET, DUAL VVT BS VI engine with next-generation Smart Hybrid technology in Baleno, India’s best-selling premium hatchback. The new BS VI compliant Baleno (Petrol) with Smart Hybrid will soon be available at NEXA showrooms across the country. The technological advancement leads to improved fuel efficiency while reducing vehicular emissions. Existing 1.2L VVT petrol engine variants will also be BS VI compliant and available in all variants including CVT.

2019 Maruti Baleno Overview

The Maruti Baleno 2019 has turned out to be an aspirational car for buyers. It is a good combination of performance and fuel efficiency. Along with that is the reliability of the Maruti brand. It is priced well. It provides loads of space, for a hatchback. With petrol and diesel options, customers are spoiled for choice. This was the car which gave the premium hatchback segment a boost. While being spacious and feature loaded, it is economical as well. It has an impressive road presence and is large in size. The interiors are also roomy and feel quite airy. The 2019 Maruti Baleno also gets styling updates. These updates will make it stand out. There are more features added and the lower variants will get features from the top variant as well. Hence an update. The Hyundai Elite i20 facelift has already been launched.

2019 Maruti Baleno Price in India

The 2019 Maruti Baleno has seen a major price hike. It will cost between ₹ 5.58 lakhs and ₹ 8.76 lakhs (Ex-showroom, Delhi). The pricing has increased a little since it’s launch at the start of the year for the petrol variants with the new 1.2-litre engine coming in. The diesel too has seen an increase in its price of Rs 12,000 across variant, check out the tables below. Last but not least, the Baleno RS which was earlier priced at Rs.8.76 lakhs has been increased to Rs 8.88 lakhs.

There will not be any changes in the dimensions of the car. It will be identical to the current model. The Maruti hatch is a spacious hatchback and offers good road presence too.

There are also speculations that there will be a new 1.5-liter engine introduced in the hatchback’s facelift. This engine is developed by Suzuki and will also power other cars like the new Ertiga and Ciaz. A new six-speed transmission will also make it to the car in all probability. But it won’t be coming in anytime soon. Even if it comes, it will in after the BS6 norms come in. This will be in 2020 only.

The new 1.2-liter DUALJET, DUAL VVT BS VI Engine offers – Improved Combustion Efficiency and Reduced Friction. It also claims to have a class-leading fuel-economy of 23.87 km/l.

2019 Maruti Baleno Smart Hybrid

Progressive Smart Hybrid Technology with Lithium-ion battery helps in the following –

  • Torque assist function: The energy stored in the lithium-ion battery assists during acceleration
    delivering optimal acceleration and performance without compromising on fuel efficiency.
  • Idle start-stop function: The engine automatically stops when idle and silently starts when the
    optimal conditions are met. This helps in increasing Fuel- Efficiency.
  • Brake energy regeneration function: When the vehicle decelerates, the Smart Hybrid
    technology intelligently charges the batteries which in turn assist the engine’s idle start-stop and

2019 Maruti Baleno Design

The Maruti Baleno 2019 will retain its basic design. It will get a minor facelift in 2019. This hatchback is a relatively new model, globally. Hence the same platform and design will continue at least until 2023. Cosmetic changes done to the car, though, bring in some freshness. It will get a new front end. This includes a new front grille, which will look sportier. The headlamps will also have new projectors and will probably have better illumination. The LED daytime running lights also will be in a new shape, embedded within the headlamp assembly.

2019 Maruti Baleno Model Engine

The engines of the 2019 Maruti Baleno will remain the same and there will be no change in them. These are a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.3-litre diesel. Both will be offered with a five-speed manual, while the petrol will continue to have the CVT option too. The petrol engine will have great performance, complemented by the light weight of the car. The performance of the petrol engine is currently the best in its segment. The engine is highly refined and it has good power on offer too. At the same time, this engine packs in generous torque too. There will an option of the Baleno RS too which has a 1.0-litre Boosterjet engine. This will be aimed at enthusiastic drivers who like performance cars.

Maruti Baleno 2019 Diesel Engine

The Maruti Baleno diesel is a 1.3-litre unit which will produce 75bhp of power. It will get a five-speed manual gearbox. This is the very competitive engine and Maruti would like to continue with it.  With the lower weight of the car, it performs well too and is fuel efficient. There are also rumors about a new 1.5-litre diesel unit making its way into the Baleno. If so, this will replace the 1.3-litre, Fiat-sourced engine.

2019 Maruti Baleno Competition

The 2019 Maruti Baleno facelift will compete with the recently launched 2018 Hyundai Elite i20, the new Volkswagen Polo, and the facelifted Honda Jazz. There shall also be the Tata 45X and even the Kia Rio that will be made available in a year and a half’s time.

  • No need to upgrade to BS6 if you have a BS4 car. The fuel Will be no problem for BS4 engines.

  • Happy to see the update in Baleno BS 6, and what about the BS for the 2019 earliest launched Baleno BS. IT is BSIV or what , If it is BSIV is there any need to go for BS 6

  • Build quality should have been better

  • Need rear AC… Sliding armrest in front seats like elite i20… rear seat armrest… and cover for under the engine space…

  • Why interior still same??????

  • Kindly consider a hybrid Baleno at least for the Top end Petrol CVT.

  • Improving ground clearance for the Facelift Baleno would be great and please improve the smoothness especially for the rear passengers as there seems to be a vibration or roughness.

  • Kindly release the Baleno Facelift with rear AC, Android auto play, Leather Seats, retaining the best mileage in the segment, LED rear lamp and rear fog lamp, Halogen head light as a minimum requirement in 2018 to be the segment leader in India.
