Bajaj Urbanite Electric or BS6?

Bajaj is working on an all-new electric bike that will be called as Urbanite. This is an all-new bike that is believed to be in works. The Bajaj Urbanite shall be the first bike that is fully EV. It was very recently Mr. Nitin Gadkari announced that automakers will have to move on to electric vehicles, else they will not have a chance to survive in the Indian market. Due to these reasons, Bajaj Auto has already begun work on electric vehicles and the first set of motorcycles is likely to make their debut in 2020. These new bikes will be launched under the Urbanite brand. These will be promoted as fun to ride motorcycles. The electric scooter has been spotted in Pune while being tested. Bajaj Urbanite – a good move?

Bajaj has been working on performance motorcycles and the company has moved out of making scooters, turning itself into a motorcycle brand.

In an interview with Livemint, Rajeev Bajaj stated that there is work going on this new bike and it will be called as Urbanite sub-brand. This new generation of bike will be manufactured not just for India but even for other markets. There will be a slew of electric motorcycles coming in. Bajaj is likely to be the first mover if they get into performance biking. At the moment, we aren’t ready with our infrastructure to support electric vehicles. There is already Tork Motorcycles, which has got all electric-powered motorcycles.

Bajaj Urbanite Specifications

A tad too early to start anything with regards to its specifications. Bajaj has been working on an electric bike and this will have good performance and maybe a good replacement for the Pulsar family if all electric bikes are made compulsory. There is already a Tork T6X motorcycle that has been made available in the market. This bike has all the bits that one will look for in a motorcycle. At the moment, we aren’t sure on how will the buyers expect electric motorcycles. At the moment, it is a tad too early to state anything. Though it will be more focused on performance than consumer-oriented. Bajaj will be looking at adding more such bikes into its fleet and slowly move towards adding the 100cc replacement bikes.

Bajaj Urbanite Launch Date

The launch date of the Bajaj Urbanite has been scheduled on 16th October. This vehicle is electric and Bajaj will place its foot in the Electric segment by launching this vehicle. The urbanite is a vehicle that brings back nostalgia with a hit of the future. Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director – Bajaj Auto had hinted at a Tesla-like electric two-wheeler, and thus we’re sure the company has some big surprises lined up with the Urbanite brand. All this said the there is no clear news that the launch on 16 will be of an electric scooter or of a regular BS6 scooter. Take a look at the revealed sketches have created a confusion.

Bajaj Urbanite Price

We expect this bike to have a similar price to that of the 200cc motorcycles. So, the pricing should be close to Rs 1 lakh. This will be cheaper due to lower taxes that have been applied to this new bike.

This will make it an exciting offering to consider.

Bajaj Urbanite Colours

The vehicle will be available in some basic shades. These will resemble the old Bajaj Chetak. We might get to see dual-tone colours. This vehicle will be an eye-catcher if it will look like the Bajaj Chetak.

Bajaj Urbanite Design

The Bajaj Urbanite sketches that have been spied give a clear idea of the lines on the basis of which the vehicle has been designed. The engine portion is asymmetrical which is not a common sight in the electric scooter market. The rear of the vehicle integrates the lights well. There are flow thats seen in the overall vehicle. The vehicle will get a front glove box as well as the rear looks like it will get an external charging point. The complete design looks like it is made keeping the foresight of a Bajaj petrol engine to feature on a scooter.

Actually the sketches that have been revealed are of a BS6 scooter which might be Bajaj’s reentry in the scooter market. The sketch clearly states that the vehicle has an exhaust pipe and a fan for cooling. These are typical sightings on a combustion engine vehicle.

The front of the vehicle has a 5 sided headlight. This is a unique design. the mirros seem too be tear drop shaped but have been improved to give better visibility. The centerpiece of the front is separate and will be of a different colour. It gets turn indicators which are on the front pannel.

The seat portion is carved and this might give the rider and Pillon some added comfort. The pillion seat might be even more comfortable. Leaked sketches of the scooter revealed a circular shape for the instrument console. We expect to see a full-digital unit, most likely with Bluetooth connectivity as a standard feature. A USB charger will also be a part of the package.

Bajaj Urbanite Competition

The bajaj Urbanite if an electric scooter will have some less competition. If it is introduced as a combustion BS6 engine scooter then there will be a lot of competitors like the Activa, Jupiter and Duet.
