Tata products will be build on new platforms from now on. The Harrier platform is one of them, which is developed using technology from Land Rover. Q501 and 502 are the codenames for the two SUVs that are being made on this platform. The Q502 will be a five seater SUV. Tata has been a leader in SUVs and wants to enhance its presence in this segment. There have been learnings from Safari and the company wants to be a sought after brand when it comes to SUVs. Tata Q502 is the second SUV based on the Harrier platform, which will be making its way into production. This will be the first global product for the brand.

Tata Motors is looking at getting into global markets. Tata Q502 will be a smaller SUV that will be as big as the Compass. This new SUV will be manufactured in Ranjangaon plant, Where even the Compass is made. It will be manufactured for India and also be exported. Tata Q502 Launch Date

The Q502 is expected to be launched by the end of 2018. We expected a prototype to be showcased at the Auto Expo 2018. The Q502 should be the next big launch from Tata. The Tata Q501 is already under test in the company’s different centres across the world. Tata Q502 will be launched in multiple countries and this will include western Europe as well. The company is considering to add more products into its kitty and this will be the first strong offering for the global market.

Expect the new Tata SUV to be priced at ₹ 9 lakhs to ₹ 14 lakhs (on-road). This will be priced in the range of the Hyundai Creta, or even slightly lower. There are rumours that Tata Motors could get this SUV with a smaller engine and that is when it will be pricing it just above the Tata Nexon. This will fill the gap in the family. Tata will not be loosing any one with a slightly higher budget than the Nexon.

Tata Q502 Design and Platform

The refinement levels of this SUV will be the best for any Tata yet. It is expected to be better than the Hexa in strength, built quality, refinement, chassis rigidity, safety and even driving dynamics. The inputs from Land Rover will go great lengths to ensure this. Tata is likely to continue with its existing strong points and enhance it further with Land Rover technology. This will help them to introduce more high-class and premium products in the market.

The Q502 will be a five-seater SUV, and this will be about 4.3 metres in length. It will have the same design language that other Tata SUVs will follow. This shall follow the Impact design language. So, we reckon this should look as good as other Tata SUVs. The Q502 will change the way Tata products are perceived. It will add a lot of appeal to the brand. It will look like a proper wider SUV, and not a crossover. Expect it to have similarities in design to the Land Rover products.

Tata Q502 Interiors

On the inside, the Q502 will come with multiple bells and whistles. This includes keyless entry, push start and stop, reverse camera, six airbags, ABS, touchscreen system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.Features will be in abundance in this vehicle. These features make it an exciting package over the existing offerings. Just like any other Tata products, this will have amazing space on offer too. What’s more, the new Tata Q502 will have more than sufficient space and large enough boot too.

Leather upholstery will also be an option in this SUV. This will enhance the premium feel of the Q502. The Tata Q502 will have all the bells and whistles one is looking for. The boot size should be about 450 litres and the rear seats will even have a recline option too. This will be a spacious SUV in its class. A 2.0-litre diesel engine will be powering the Q502, which is Fiat’s multijet engine. It is the same engine that also powers the Jeep Compass, However it will be detuned to provide more efficiency. This engine shall be manufactured in Ranganjaon. It will be producing about 140bhp of power and will have 300Nm of maximum torque. This engine will come mated to a six-speed manual and automatic transmission options. Tata won’t be acquiring the 9-speed automatic from Fiat. There will be a six-speed option instead, which will likely be the one offered on the Hexa.

The Q502 will be offered with a 4WD option. This will be Tata’s own developed technology, where it will take up technology from Land Rover. This off-road vehicle will have multiple driving modes and it will make it a good off-roading vehicle. There shall be several elements from the Terrain Response system.

The Tata Q502 will be returning about 12km/l in the city for 4×2 version and about 11km/l for the 4×4 version. The 4×4 version shall be made available only on the top-of-the-line variant only. The Q502 will have better performance than vehicles above its class, like the Mahindra XUV500 and the Tata Hexa.

  • Problem is with the lag in bringing out a product and the technological perfection…..Tata lacks both….
