Ford will name its Figo sedan as Figo Aspire. The American auto giant has been testing the new-generation Figo hatchback and Figo sedan for a while and now the company is gearing up to launch the twins in the coming months. The Figo Aspire will be the sedan and the hatchback will be called as Figo.
The engines on the Figo Aspire and Figo will be a 1.2-litre TiVCT petrol that will produce about 76bhp of power and 103Nm of maximum torque. This is the same 1.2-litre Duratec engine block, which will now get variable valve timing. This will increase its performance and even the fuel efficiency. This will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Introducing a new 1.0-litre TiVCT might just prove expensive.
For the diesel, it will be the 1.5-litre TDCi engine that will produce about 75bhp and 195Nm of maximum torque. This will have its fuel efficiency close to 27km/l, as per the ARAI cycle of test. Even the diesel engine will be launched with a five-speed manual transmission. Making it currently the most fuel-efficient diesel in India. The Ford Fiesta has the same engine with 90bhp and it now returns efficiency close to 25km/l.
The Ford Figo Aspire and the new Figo will get features like integreated music system with bluetooth connectivity, steering mounted audio controls, Microsoft SYNC, electrically adjustable ORVMs, ABS and dual airbags on the top-of-the-line variant.
The Figo Aspire and the Figo hatchback will be manufactured in Gujarat. Ford has registered Aspire and Figo Aspire brand names and even our sources have confirmed the same. Ford had registered for the Aspire brand a couple of decades ago in USA, as it sold the Ford Aspire sedan, the second-generation of Ford Festiva and the entry-level sedan to the Ford brand in North America.
This will be Ford’s new entry-level sedan for Indian market. Ford will also be launching the next-generation Endeavour in India with 2.2-litre and 3.2-litre diesel engines. This new-generation SUV is likely to be launched by this year-end or by early 2016.
