This Ssangyong Rexton will be allegedly christened as Mahindra XUV 700. Mahindra would not want to brand it as Rexton, because of its initial failure. This SUV was showcased at the Auto Expo 2018, where it still had the Rexton badging. The internal code name for the car is Y400.

Last we knew was, that this cars launch was delayed. The car will be launched next month but not on 9th, October. Mahindra was going to postpone the launch of this SUV into the last week of October. Mahindra and Mahindra have now officially announced that its all-new SUV – Y400 will be launched on 19th November this year. It will be Mahindra’s most expensive SUV in the market and will be placed above the XUV 500. The upcoming SUV will take on the likes of Ford Endeavour, Honda CR-V, Skoda Kodiaq and the Toyota Fortuner.

The Mahindra XUV700 will be a localised product. It drivetrain will be suited for local conditions.  It looks modern, fresh and designed for the Indian market. Mahindra wants to pit it against the Toyota Fortuner and get our own desi version of a full-size SUV. It will be offered globally with petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric options. What all will India get? Read further to know more.

Launch Date

Mahindra XUV 700

                             19th November

Mahindra was looking to get the XUV 700 in the first quarter of 2019. But, now the date has been stepped up. The car will be launched right around the festive season. The new XUV 700 will become the new flagship for the Mahindra brand. This will help them to enhance their sales numbers. This new SUV will have a good range and network. The only change in the initial launch period and timing is that the car will be launched in the last week of October now. This we think is being done because of the launch of the Hyundai Santro and Aspire facelift. Mahindra will now launch the car on 19th November.

We have seen good improvements in Mahindra vehicles lately. The KUV100 NXT is an example of that. Mahindra believes in adopting new technologies quickly. Their vehicles are now more reliable and offer a good mix of performance and utility. The Mahindra XUV 700 will be an affordable SUV, but the premium quotient will still be high. Though technologies will be shared with Ssangyong, this SUV will be manufactured locally. The powertrain also will be suited for Indian conditions. It will be priced aggressively and this help it grab some market share from the Fortuner and Endeavour.

Mahindra XUV 700 Spy Shots

The XUV700 is going to be a big car and maneuvering it is going to be a challenge. Thus, in the spy shots we see the big touchscreen with the 360 degree camera. There are going to be a minimum of four cameras mounted on the sides of the car. They will sync up and provide a 360 degree vision for driver. These cameras will also help in off-roading and making sure that you can park or drive in narrow lanes without hitting obstacles. The XUV 700 is going to be a bigger car than the the Toyota Fortuner and this feature will be more than the add-on and more of a need.

Mahindra XUV 700 Price in India

Minimum Price ₹ 20 Lakh

(ex-showroom price, expected)

This new SUV will be competing with the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour primarily. As this will have the home advantage, the price of the Mahindra XUV 700 will be a lot more aggressive. We reckon it will start from where the top model of the XUV500 is available. So, this new SUV will be priced in the range of  21 lakhs to 27 lakhs (ex-showroom). This will mean cheaper than the competition. by atleast about Rs 5-7 lakhs. This will make it an exciting package. The XUV 700 being a Mahindra product, it will have the advantage of wider network too.

We expect the range of the electric batteries to be about 300 kilometres in one charge at least as even the KUV 100 electric will have that kind of a range.

The new design language will be similar to other Mahindra vehicles. There will be the seven slat front grille, a lot of lines running across. The infotainment system will be about 7-inch in lower variants and about 10-inch in higher variants.

There will be cruise control in the Mahindra XUV 700 and we can expect this one to be adaptive one and the micro-hybrid technology too. The seats will be well-bolstered for good comfort of long journeys. There will be rear AC vents for the second and third row. Mahindra will also offer a better NVH package on the XUV 700.
