This makes the new Swift a lot more powerful and agile. There is a a weight reduction in the new Maruti Swift 2018 and an increment in the performance and even features.

The engines remain the same in the Swift, but it now has a lighter chassis. This has a positive effect on the performance of the current engines and also to the fuel efficiency of the car. 2018 Maruti Swift’s major seller will be the 1.2-litre petrol K-Series engine. This is the most powerful in its segment and also fun to drive. The lighter body weight delivers better performance. It is difficult for competition to beat the Swift petrol in terms of its performance. It is quiet. There is no noise or vibrations at low or even high engine speeds. This is a gem of an engine indeed. There could be a Swift RS, but we aren’t sure when. Maruti could introduce it much later on.

2018 Maruti Swift side 1

The diesel is a 1.3-litre unit. This segment has been moving towards petrol for the last few years. However, the 2018 Swift diesel will be a good seller still.  Many consider it to be a good option even now. Also in smaller towns, people still prefer the diesel version. This engine has decent NVH, and it has good enough noise evident. The insulation is ok and still you can hear the engine at 3,000rpm. The 2018 Maruti Swift will have more than sufficient performance in both, just that the petrol will have better performance. The light body weight makes the engines perform even better.

Maruti Swift 2018 Variants

The new variants are Lxi, Vxi, Zxi and Zxi+ variants on petrol and even a diesel engines. So a total of eight variants. There will be four more variants with AMT, two on petrol and two on diesel. The Zxi+/Zdi+ will be new variants and shall offer more features. This one will see a major hike in the pricing and will overlap with base variants of the Baleno.

The Swift was first launched in 2005 and it had soon become one of the best sellers in the country, ever. In 2007 its diesel version was a game changer and upset the entire segment. The second-generation of this hatchback also got a very strong response and the numbers only kept growing. Now, the third-gen is preparing for another onslaught. There has been a lot of inquisitiveness in the market for this new hatchback.  The Indian market is the biggest markets for this car. The new Dzire was launched here first, to cash in on the compact sedan segment. Now, the company is focussing on the new Swift.

Ground Clearance

The overall length is identical, which is under 4 meters. The major change is in the width and even the wheelbase. The wheelbase sees an increase of 20mm, which is fairly good in this segment. As per the new ground clearance norms, there is a change in the numbers. The new norms are to fully-load the vehicle and then check the clearance. Due to this, all the cars see a reduction of about 20-25mm with ease. The 2018 Maruti Swift sees a reduction to 163mm, the same like the DZire 2017.

The new Swift is lighter than the earlier version by around 100kgs. It is wider and has a longer wheelbase as well. But it is still under 4 metres in length. The same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines are available  in the new Swift. This time there is an automatic (AMT) option as well, both in petrol and diesel. The biggest change is the new addition of features. The top end will be loaded with projector headlamps, daytime running LEDs, touchscreen system, reverse camera, navigation, Android Auto and even Apple CarPlay. The rear seat space is also more this time. The new Swift has dual airbags and ABS as a standard feature. This means better safety. The car comes prepared in order to adhere to new rules coming in.

2018 Maruti Swift Design

This hatchback looks very similar to the new DZire. The front gets a large grille but with minimal chrome. The headlamps are very stylish. The new Z+ variant gets projector lamps with daytime running LEDs also. The bonnet shape is crowned now and has strakes. There s more matte black on the front and round fog lamps too. The car is wider than the outgoing Swift. The wide appearance also makes it look more premium. New Maruti Swift RS rear

The silhouette is similar to the outgoing model. The Swift retains its core design philosophy, hence one can easily recognize it. The C-pillar is a blackened one. The rear door handle is mounted on the top and is hidden. The roof is sloping. Wheels are bigger and tyres are 15-inch this time. The rear has minimal lines too. License plate has been shifted to the bumper. Tail lamps are LED and attractive to look at. The new design looks fresh and has some new add-ons too. It has to be seen how well customers receive this new design. The rear glass appears to be smaller this time. There could be some elements, which might not be liked by all.

New Maruti Swift 2018 Interior

The interiors are similar to the new DZire. However, the Swift 2018 has all-black interiors instead of a dual colour theme. It has a sporty looking steering wheel with flat bottom. The higher models get leather-wrapped wheel too. There is no faux-wood finish like the Dzire. Instrument consists of two dials and driver information system too. This is identical to the Dzire. Centre console is made up of AC vents, touchscreen system and climate control. Touchscreen is the same like on any other Maruti vehicle. This has Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, reverse camera, navigation, bluetooth, USB and aux also. The mirrors are electrically adjustable too.

2018 Maruti Swift interior 1

Apart from quality, the increase in space is the biggest USP of the new Swift. The front seats offer better support too. The rear seats have improved knee room and seating comfort. The boot is a bit larger than before, not too much. This makes it a better space for rear passengers and carrying luggage. The luggage space increases by 58 litres, around 28% more than the second generation Swift. Around 24 mm more headroom, and a better seat back angle, further enhances the comfort in the rear seats.

Maruti Swift 2018 Colours

The colours on the new Swift 2018 are six of them. Following is the list

  • Prime Lucent Orange
  • SLD Fire Red
  • Prime Midnight Blue
  • Met Silky Silver
  • PRL Arctic White
  • Met Magma Grey

Maruti Swift 2018 Mileage

Petrol (Company Claimed)

21km/l

Diesel (Company Claimed)

27km/l

All Maruti’s rank high in terms of fuel efficiency. The petrol and the diesel engines have good efficiency. The petrol engine in manual avatar will return 13km/l in the city, AMT will be 12km/l. The diesel manual is about 17km/l and AMT is 16km/l in the city.

The power is good, but it is a bit jerky in AMT when you shift to a lower gear. Both the engines will come with 5-speed manual and AMT options. This will be another important product to top the sales chart in India.

Maruti Swift 2018 Competition

The competition of the Swift 2018 are majorly the Hyundai Grand i10, Maruti Ignis, Ford Figo and even the Mahindra KUV100. The advantage that the 2018 Swift has apart from the brand value it enjoys will be the features it will offer. Most of these aren’t even available on the competition. These are the major competing cars. The Ford Ecosport, Vitara Brezza and even the Nexon somewhat overlap at some price points. So, we cannot ignore them not even the Baleno.

Motor octane team, does the prices mentioned are onroad prices or exshowroom? Dzire price hiked about 30-40k from old model to new. So next generation swift’s pricing might be biggest suspense. I am waiting for nextgenswift.

Mahindra XUV300 Electric will have 350-400 kilometers of range

Published

on

By

Mahindra XUV300 Electric front

The Mahindra XUV300 Electric! We expect to see it at the 2020 Auto Expo. The car is codenamed S210. This could be the first affordable electric SUV people could buy. Apart from this, Mahindra has not revealed anything else till now. According to some publications, the car could get around 350 kilometres to 400 kilometres of range with a long-range battery unit. If this happens, the car will be a very real answer to those who are saying that the range of such vehicles is going to be a problem. The car will part of Mahindra’s big push towards electrification of cars in India. The Mahindra KUV100 is also slated to receive an electric variant soon.

Mahindra XUV300 Electric motor

Below are our predictions on what features the car will offer. What electric unit will it be? Will it be a hybrid or a fully electric unit? Read more to find out.

Mahindra XUV300 Electric Launch

The Mahindra XUV300 Electric will be launched in 2020. The car will be first showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. The will launched subsequently. This launch would also make sure that Mahindra has a lot of electric vehicles in its lineup.

Mahindra XUV300 Electric Launching 2020

Mahindra XUV300 Electric Price

The price of the car is to early to predict. The price of the regular XUV300 has not been revealed yet. The car will be obviously more expensive than the car with the combustion engine. The XUV300 Electric will be cheaper than the Hyundai Kona for sure. Mahindra will have taken that car into account before making the decision of getting this car to India. The car should be under Rs 25 lakhs (on-road). electric cars do not have a big reach in India and people with the means who can afford an extra car and want to make a statement or want to experience something different would buy them.

Mahindra XUV300 Electric Price
Base variant Rs 22 lakhs
Top variant Rs 24 lakhs

Mahindra XUV300 Electric Design

The design of the car will be the same as the XUV300. The regular XUV300 takes a lot of inspiration from the Mahindra XUV500. The design will remain the same on the electric variant. The only difference will be that the front engine bay will also have more storage. The interior dashboard layout will be different and there will be more weight saving materials used in the construction of the car. The dimensions will be the same. The car will be a sub-4 meter car but will have some body panels that are different and more suited for the electric car. For e.g – the car will have no grille as an electric car does not require any kind of cooling mechanism or radiator for air flow. Thus we will see a revised bumper and hood. The car will have HID headlamps and LED taillights. The tyre design will be completely different too. Mahindra will make sure the tyre’s are eco tyres which have low resistance and have a good life and aid the car in increasing its range.

Mahindra XUV300 Electric Specifications

Now, no official specifications are out yet and there will be time before Mahindra announces something. But if we can go by the Ssangyong Tivoli EVR concept that was shown at the Geneva motor show, the car will have an electric motor that makes 127bhp and also could feature a small single cylinder petrol range extender which would recharge the battery on the move. Now, this would make the Mahindra XUV300 Electric a hybrid and not a pure electric. Ssangyong says that the electric motor has enough juice for 130 kilometres, but with the range extender, the car could go as far as 500 kilometres. This feature would mean that more people would like to buy the car in India where range anxiety for electric vehicles is a big thing. And with reports of the car being able to do at least 400 kilometres coming in. Many people would consider this EV strongly.

Mahindra XUV300 Electric Images

Mahindra XUV300 Electric Competiton

As of now, there are no competitors in the electric SUV market in India. Hyundai has the Kona EV and will introduce it to India soon. But with an SUV manufacturer like Mahindra making an entry into this segment with this much seriousness means that an electric future is very close for us. Even Tata and FFord have developed and are ready with electric cars like the Tigor EV and the Aspire EV. The days electric cars on the road are seen as a common sight are closing in.

Tata Altroz will be the production name of the Tata 45X hatchback

Published

on

By

Tata Alquila

Yes, folks, you heard it first here. We are the first to bring you this news. The production name of the upcoming Tata hatchback code-named 45x – Tata Altroz. The trademark given below is proof. Tata had recently asked fans on different forums too to guess the name of the car. The car will be Tata’s first premium hatchback offering. We expect it to come with many first in class features and many safety features.

Tata Altroz

What do you think will be the price, specs and features on this premium hatchback? Will you wait for the Altroz and not buy an i20?

Tata Altroz Launch

Launch Date August 2019

The Tata Altroz will be launched this year, August. It will be unvieled at the Geneva Motor Show in March. We had earlier reported that the car will be launched around September. We were pretty close. The car will be shown in its production avatar at the Geneva Motor Show. The car is currently undergoing rigorous tests. The pictures of the testing mule of this car have been spotted and released multiple times. Currently, the company is focusing on Harrier, Nexon, Tiago, and Tigor. The Harrier, Tigor and Tiago have their JTP versions were launched recently.

Tata Altroz side

Tata Altroz Price in India

Tata 45X Price (on-road price)
Minimum ₹6 lakhs
Maximum ₹10 lakhs

The Tata Altroz is likely to be priced between Rs 6 lakhs to Rs 10 lakhs, on-road. Tata will try and undercut the Maruti Baleno in pricing. This will give it a tremendous edge. The car will be manufactured locally. Thus, from the start, this will give it a big edge in competitive pricing. If the pricing of the Nexon is to be considered, then we can safely assume the Tata 45X is going to want a large piece of the segment. The i20, Jazz, Punto, and Baleno are a part of the premium hatchback segment and have shaped the market to their needs. Tata will have to make sure that they give the features that a customer in this segment is used to. Cars sold in this segment carry certain customer expectations and demands that need to be fulfilled by the manufacturer while being very competitively and closely priced. The Altroz is an exciting package and should be offering some good value for money.

Tata Altroz Safety

The Tata Altroz will also be a very safe car when it will launch. The car could get 6 airbags, Traction control, ABS, EBD, ESP and other safety features like Corner Control Stability and also Pedestrian safety.

Tata Altroz Design

When it comes to styling, the Altroz follows the Impact 2.0 design language. This design language is what is to be used by Tata Motors on all its future models. This hatchback is based on the Advanced Modular Platform. This platform will underpin all kinds of vehicles from Tata Motors in the coming times. The Tata Altroz is a futuristic concept. It has sharp lines and a very aerodynamic design. Shod with a sleek front end, the windshield rakes sharply, to give it a very sporty stance. It looks dynamic even at a standstill. The whole car gives off a very athletic vibe. The spoiler looks like a continuation of the roof of the car.

Tata-45X-Premium-Hatchback-Concept

The Tata 45X gets a thin grille. It’s fitted with LED headlamps and DRLs. There is going to be a separate grille on the lower part of the front bumper. The front bumper itself looks very big and low. Flared wheel arches make it look muscular. The car is wide enough to rival the likes of Hyundai Elite i20 and Maruti Baleno. The Tata 45X has a long wheelbase. It is low slung and the engine bay is small. This gives us a sense that the cabin shall be very spacious. This is what will be its USP and what customers would like to have in a premium hatchback. The other thing if you notice is the flat bonnet will aid in visibility and make manoeuvring this car in traffic a breeze. The result will be the driver having a relaxed drive.

Tata Altroz rear

Tata Altroz Specifications

Engine 1.2-litre petrol 1.5-litre diesel
Power 100bhp 110bhp
Torque 160Nm 260Nm
Transmission 6-speed manual 6-speed manual

The Altroz is going to get a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine. The diesel might be the 1.5-litre, which will be shared with the Nexon. These are the new generation engines from Tata. The engines will churn about 100-110bhp of power and will be offered with a six-speed manual and also AMT options. These will be the first set of premium hatchbacks that shall get AMT. The engines will be fuel efficient too. The six-speed gearbox will do wonders for the mileage. They might not be the best when it comes to performance, but they will offer a good package, especially at the price this car is expected to come at. It will also be cheaper and more cost effective to have an AMT unit in the car rather than a traditional automatic. This could be one of the same units as seen on the Nexon.

Tata Altroz drive

However, there is some talk about this car getting a CVT gearbox like the Hyundai i20.

Tata Altroz Competition

The Tata Altroz will be competing with the Fiat Punto, Hyundai Elite i20, Maruti Baleno and the Honda Jazz. Tata Motors is looking at enhancing its reach in this segment. What they will have to offer is the best in class, that is when it will work out. This car is expected to bring some more zing into the segment, which is veering towards SUVs. It is interesting that Tata will be making the car available.

Maruti Wagon R Electric will be under Rs 7 lakhs

Published

Wagon R electric testing

There are electric cars that one can purchase in India at this moment. But ownership is not that simple. There are still some problems like – lack of charging stations, life of the lithium-ion battery and the cost of owning one. But Maruti is planning to make the Maruti Wagon R Electric affordable with the price of this car coming around Rs 7 lakhs (On-road Mumbai) with the current subsidies in place. The car is also turning out to be more attractive with a 200km range. Sounds unreal. With this Maruti could kickstart an entire electric trend in India.

Currently, Maruti has got a fleet of electric cars on testing already. To know more about the Maruti Wagon R Electric scroll down.

New-Maruti-Wagon-R-2017-2

Maruti Wagon R Electric How Will It Work?

With it’s logistical prowess and huge network of dealers/service stations, Maruti will make the Wagon R Electric the first Indian mass produced and sold EV. The new WagonR with its electric version is slated to launch in India by 2020. The Maruti WagonR Electric will be developed in partnership with Toyota. Toyota in return will be selling the Brezza and the Balano as rebadged as a Toyota compact SUVs and hatchbacks. The Wagon R Electric will be the first Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MISL) vehicle to offer an electric power-train.

The cars testing has already begun. Maruti is making sure that this EV is ready to tackle the Indian terrain with ease. Around 50 cars are undergoing testing and are getting fine-tuned.

New Maruti Wagon R 2018

Maruti Wagon R Electric EV Facts

Now with that out of the way, we must tell you some more facts about EVs in India.

  • India is still a nation that gets 90% of its energy from non-renewable resources. EVs cannot show a ‘clean car’ image in this environment.
  • Coal plants are a major resource and generate a lot of electricity. After this comes petroleum and natural and biogas.
  • The government has announced a subsidy for EVs but has not yet drafted a law or passed it through the Ministry of Expenditure.
  • Lithium-ion batteries are not cheap. Batteries can cost up to INR 2-3 lakhs and prices seem to not go down soon in the future.
  • Buyers of EVs have a minuscule fuel cost compared to run a car with a combustion engine.
  • But the time taken to recover the money is huge.
  • Then there is the lack of infrastructure that needs to aid EVs when it comes to charging.
  • India is a big nation and range anxiety is a problem that many people will face when they want to commute long distances in their electric cars.

Maruti Wagon R 2018 rea

Maruti Wagon R Electric Design and Interiors

The car will be made with a great number of design inputs from the Maruti Wagon R. The car will get premium design touches and will be on a different level in terms of safety, features and specifications when compared to the regular or current Wagon R. There will be a more informative instrument cluster and a better infotainment setup. The car will get plush leather seats and automatic climate control.

Wagon R electric testing

Finally, with all these points and the imminent launch of EVs in the Indian market, we should make sure that before they get here the infrastructure is in place. Maruti Suzuki’s plan to launch the car in 2020 means that they obviously must have thought about these problems. The government under pressure from the NGT(National Green Tribunal) has declared that by 2030 India has to go full electric.

How much of this will materialise? Are internal combustion engines seeing their last days in India? I don’t think so. But all of this does means EVs on city streets will be a common sight in the future.

2019 Yamaha MT-15 Design

Test mules of the 2019 Yamaha MT-15 have been spotted testing in India and have given us a fair bit of idea. The design of the bike is the same as the one sold in the international market. The seat is also the same, and the headlight silhouette indicates the bike gets the same LED unit as the Thai-spec bike. However, Yamaha has chosen to go with telescopic forks up front and a box-section swingarm at the rear. This has been done to keep prices in check. The one in the Thailand market gets inverted forks and an aluminum swingarm. The alloy wheels in the India-spec bike are also taken from the R15 v3.0 which is again a cost-effective measure.
