Honda has been the king of the scooter segment for a long time now. After its successful stint at capturing the urban market with its scooters, the company is now looking at reaching out to the semi-urban and rural buyers, who look for an affordable, rugged and practical two-wheeler. In comes the Honda Cliq, to offer a mix of all these values to customers. While the Activa took care of the needs of urban customers, the Honda Cliq will cater to rural markets mainly and provide customers an option of a sturdy and utilitarian scooter that will cost under INR 50,000. Honda is making sure that this scooter establishes itself in these areas and customers start connecting with the Honda brand in rural markets as well.

The Cliq is fitted with a 110cc engine, single-cylinder air-cooled, that delivers around 8bhp of power and 9Nm of maximum torque. The same V-matic transmission found in other Honda scooters also does duty in this one. This frame is based on an underbone-type chassis, which makes it light and yet sturdy. The engine powers the rear wheel. The Activa also uses the same engine and it is now BS4 compliant too. The Cliq however is a light scooter weighing just 102 kgs, hence the performance also shall be good.

The Cliq 110cc scooter comes with drum brakes only. There is no disc brake available even as as option. The good part is that this scooter gets combi brakes, which is made available as a standard feature. This scooter is also designed to provide a lot of convenience and utility. The floor board is wide and has ample foot space. The knee room is also good. It gets a maintenance free battery, tubeless tyres with block pattern, underseat storage, large seat which is long as well, a metal carrier at the back and mobile charging under the seat. With these bits, it becomes a very practical solution and a good option over a motorcycle as well. The Cliq also looks rugged with its styling and proportions, not to mention the block pattern tyres.

Ltd. said, “In Maharashtra, over 40% contribution to two-wheeler sales comes from scooters. As an early adopter of scooterization, there is an increased demand & varied customer needs emerging in the state and scooter segment is now ripe for sub segmentation. Honda continues to lead the scooterization of the nation and our new launch CLIQ is Honda’s next step to take scooterization deeper into the hinterlands.”

He also added, ” CLIQ is developed for the up-country customers with a progressive mindset, and is a true disruptor in 100-110cc segment. CLIQ challenges the traditional preferences with its perfect blend of Practicality, Versatility and Value for money. Honda with its unparalleled economies of scale in scooters has broken the price gap between automatic transmission and mass motorcycles. We are confident that CLIQ will be the next revolution in daily commute.”

Honda Cliq Design

The Honda Cliq is a path breaking design and the first of it kind in the market. The seat height is low and hence seems to be longer that it is. Even though it is a utilitarian scooter, it looks really good and the styling elements add a lot of flair. It is anything but boring. The front has one-piece panel that also houses the headlamp in between. The side shields are long and have the indicators embedded in them. The handlebar is naked and does not have the instrument panel around it like most scooters that we are used to seeing. The instrument panel is placed in front of the handlebar. It is identical to the Activa and has a speedometer, odometer and a fuel gauge. The seat is wide and the height is low. This allows even short riders to be comfortable on it.

Honda Cliq side

The side panels of the Honda Cliq looks stylish and has attractive design elements on it. The food board is also broad and is comfortable to keep one’s feet on it. The knee also doesn’t later with the front panel and there is enough space to carry stuff. There is a grab rail at the rear which is very useful to hold or tie small luggage. The tail lamp has a chamfered look and it does appear very stylish and appealing. There is lots of space for stowing or carrying stuff.  It comes with steel wheels. Allot wheels are not available even as an option.  Overall, the Honda Cliq, though priced at the low end of the spectrum, seems to offer a lot, thereby being great value for money. It does look appealing and is very utilitarian too.

There are been no change in the engine tuning or the power rating that it offers. While the Navi was designed for the urban buyers and was a new experiment, the Cliq aims at taking care of the needs of the rural customer. Could this be the new Cub for India? We think it can be one.

I M NOT AT ALL INTERESTED TO BUY THIS VEHICLE

  • This CLIQ is beautiful, but the seats of scooters are small in length. If the length will be a little bit more one family can seat easily on it, & it’s height also a little bit of more.
