The compact SUV segment doesn’t cease to amaze. There are new players coming in and this is good news for buyers. Honda too has entered this segment with the WRV. As this segment gets hotter, we compare the Honda WRV with another hot selling compact SUV, which is the Maruti Vitara Brezza. How do these both stack against each other? Lets find out.

The Honda WRV is based on the Jazz hatchback. This is essentially a raised version of the Jazz. It has a higher ground clearance and also gets body cladding. The WRV gets rugged looks. Roof rails also come fitted with it. The front looks are very aggressive and the WRV looks beefy. It gets smoked headlamps and a thick chrome grille. The Rear is somewhat identical to the Jazz but gets a new treatment. From the side is looks similar to the Jazz, though.

Vitara Brezza in motion

The Maruti Vitara Brezza does not have big butchy looks, however, it is enough to give it an SUV stance. The Brezza looks good and decent too. A good road presence is what it offers. Maruti Vitara Brezza also gets smoked headlamps and a thick chrome front grille. There are bull-horn shaped LEDs, however, there are no daytime running LEDs in it. The side profile of the Maruti Vitara Brezza is a bit boxy that gives it a SUV look. It also has a sloping roofline. The black body cladding make it look like a proper SUV. The rear is quite simple and has an integrated spoiler

The dashboard of the WRV is identical to the Jazz. They are sporty and. The instrument cluster has three dials, one for speedometer, one for tachometer a driver information system. The major features on the WRV are keyless entry, push start and stop, touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, dual airbags and even ABS. The cruise control and push start and stop features are available only on the diesel top-end model, VX. The infotainment system even has MirrorLink, HDMI and 2 USB and SD card slots.

The interiors of the Vitara Brezza look sophisticated

Interiors of the Maruti Vitara Brezza are all black. This gives it a sporty feel. The same regular Suzuki steering wheel is carried forward on the Brezza. The instrument cluster has twin dials and driver information system, which can change its backlight. The centre console consists of a touchscreen infotainment system with maps, bluetooth and reverse parking camera. This is available only in the ZDi+ variant. There is decent space inside, both in the front and rear.

Honda WRV vs Maruti Vitara Brezza Engine

The Honda WRV gets the same engines as the Jazz. This includes a 1.2-litre petrol with five-speed manual transmission. It delivers 88bhp at 6,000rpm and 109Nm at 4,500rpm. The gear ratios have been re-engineered for improved drivability. The diesel engine is a 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine with a power of 98.6bhp at 3,600rpm and 200Nm torque at 1,750rpm. This comes mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.

The Vitara Brezza uses one of the most trusted engines. A Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre diesel mill, which does duty in several cars around the world. It develops 90bhp of power  and 200Nm of torque. It is quite a silent engine. This engine comes mated to a five-speed transmission. The Vitara Brezza comes only with a diesel engine option, however, a petrol is on the cards.

The Honda WRV petrol returns 12 km/l in the city and 16 km/l on the highway. The diesel engine returns 17km/l in the city and 22km/l on the highway.The Maruti Vitara Brezza returns 12 km/l in the city and 16 km/l on the highway.
