Renault Duster Petrol Automatic launched for INR 10.32 lakhs (ex-Delhi)
The new Renault Duster Petrol Automatic has been launched for INR 11.95 lakhs (on-road, New Delhi). This is a fully automatic version. Renault has been selling the Duster with a 1.6-litre petrol engine and the 1.5-litre diesel comes in two states of tune. The diesel has a six-speed AMT on the more powerful version. While the petrol, it was neglected. It wasn’t a major seller, but now it seems buyers are moving towards petrol cars. This is one reason why Renault Duster Petrol Automatic will be making its way into its petrol engine line-up.
Renault Duster Petrol Automatic Price in India
To begin with, Renault at the moment is offering the Duster petrol only in RxE and RxL variants. The company has introduced the RxS variant, which is the automatic trim for the petrol engine. At the same time, we reckon, the petrol automatic should be offered in mid and top petrol variants. The price of this variant in New Delhi is about INR 11.95 lakhs (on-road, New Delhi). The only other petrol automatic available in the market is the Ford Ecosport. Renault will want to compete with Ford and get some of its buyers on to the Duster.

Renault Duster Petrol Automatic Exterior
In terms of exterior, there shall be no changes in the design. The Duster has a stylish front grille that looks appealing. The headlamps are somewhat squarish and have stylish looking appearance. They are smoked out. The fascia looks rugged and has a hint of premium-ness with the chrome added. The Duster does appear to be wide .
The silhouette looks muscular with its wheel haunches and shallow glass-area. There are roof rails too and stylish look alloy wheels as well. The rear looks a bit dull when compared to the rest of the styling. The curves continue towards the rear as well, however the small tail lamps looks off. The RxS variant will even have 16-inch gunmetal alloy wheels as well.

Renault Duster Petrol Automatic Interior
On the inside, the Duster continues to offer the same interiors. This isn’t one of the best looking interiors and it doesn’t offer as many features like the competition. What the Duster has on offer is a simple interior, with a three-spoke steering wheel. The instrument cluster consists of three dials and a driver information system too. The centre console has a touchscreen system, circular air-con vents and climate control as well. The quality is decent, and it could have been better. There shall be red contrast interiors also.
Duster offers five seats and it has good enough space for five. The centre tunnel is low and this makes it comfortable for three at the back. The rear AC vent has been removed, which improves the knee room for the third passenger. The boot is 475 litres, which is good enough to gobble luggage for an entire weekend.

Renault Duster Petrol Automatic Engine and Transmission
Powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine, the Duster churns about 103bhp of power at 5750rpm and 148Nm of peak torque at 3,750rpm. This engine comes with a five-speed manual transmission and soon a CVT shall be offered. The Duster’s petrol engine is more about efficiency. From what we understand, Renault is testing the demand of petrol engines in India on SUVs.
We reckon, the upcoming Kaptur should get the 1.2-litre turbo petrol, which will help to enhance its performance and efficiency. This engine is more of a cruiser. It isn’t stonker of a performer. This engine is good to drive comfortably in city or on the highway. The engine is a tad noisy when compared to other petrol engines. To overtake, one has to downshift on most of the instances.
The CVT will mean that the Duster Petrol Automatic will have smoother transition as the speed increases.
Renault Duster Petrol Automatic – Should you buy?
The Renault Duster is a tough SUV. It is well built and has strong underpinnings. What it misses out on is interior plastic quality and even the features list is small. But then you have a good quality SUV when it comes to build quality. So, it is a good product if you won’t want to feel super special. This is more of a practical buy. As car buyers need something that is good in power and efficiency, the petrol isn’t anywhere close. The diesel is a better bet in that case. If you think you still need a petrol automatic SUV, then pick up a Ford Ecosport petrol automatic. It is more affordable, gets most of the features and is a lot more affordable too.
