Bajaj Boxer X150 Cross has been spied once again. The bike was testing near Pune.  This is the cross-country version of the Boxer that was sold in India. The Boxer X150 is being exposed to African markets, where it is quite a popular bike. It has not yet been launched in India. Currently there seems no reason for Bajaj to bring this to India. There doesn’t seem to an opportunity or any strong reason for the company to get the Boxer brand back in India. The Discover, Pulsar and V range are are selling good numbers. Bajaj may introduce this bike in India under a different brand name, later.

Bajaj is not currently into off roaders. Though the Boxer X150 is not an off-roader exactly, it has the look of one. Many years back Bajaj had launch the first off-road bike – Bajaj SX Enduro.

This was based on the then Kawasaki KB100. We doubt if the Boxer brand will make it into the Indian bike market once again. Bajaj is making this bike in India and at the moment it is testing it for export to other markets. There are some reports that it will be coming back, are mostly incorrect. Bajaj won’t be getting a new brand, it will want to focus on the V15, Pulsar family and the Discover 150.

Bajaj Boxer X150 Cross Engine

Bajaj Boxer X150 Cross has a 150cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine. The bike produces about 12bhp of power. It comes with a four-speed transmission as well. The X150 Cross version gets mud grip tyres and a raised front mud guard. This is the same engine that has been borrowed from the Discover. There is no other major change in the bike.

At the moment, no Indian bike maker has a 150cc off-road bike. The Hero Impulse was there however it has been discontinued. Other bike makers are considering an off-road bike for India, however that will be of higher displacement. A 150cc version should be underpowered and we doubt if there is a market for off-road bike, especially for this budget.

But you never know. Bajaj may launch this bike with a few more tweaks and a different brand name, to make it appealing for buyers in smaller towns. Remember the Hero Splendor Classic? Maybe Bajaj is thinking on similar lines for an off-road looking bike.
