Range Rover Velar – a new Sports Coupe coming soon

Range Rover Coupe shall be called as Range Rover Velar.

Range Rover Velar will be the sports coupe SUV for the Rangie family. This SUV will bridge the gap between the existing luxurious SUVs and sports coupe ones.

The BMW X6 and the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe have been seeing an increase in their popularity and this will help the British brand to add a different range of customers too, to its portfolio. The term Valer means veil or cover in Italian. This was the code name used for the first-ever Range Rover prototypes.

Range Rover Velar Design

The Range Rove Velar will have a similar identity to the Jaguar F-PACE, which is based on the new iQ aluminium platform. The Range Rover Velar will be a design similar to the Range Rover family, the fascia shall be. Then it should have a sloping roof, more like a fastback. This shall give it a design that similar to the sports coupe. With a new underpinnings, this will be the lighter and agile. This one should have good on-road manners and some off the road capabilities too.

Range Rover Velar Features

The Range Rover Velar will offer most of the features from the Sport. This will be more of an on-road vehicle, and it will have better road dynamics. There shall be Terrain Response System, however not the second version. There will be heads-up display, adaptive cruise control and several other features we see on the competition.

Range Rover Velar Specifications

This one shall have four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines. There will even be hybrid options too, diesel hybrid for Europe and petrol hybrid for the North American markets. There shall be 2.0-litre petrol and diesels, while there will even be 3.0-litre V6 of the two. The hybrid will be a four-cylinder mill. Land Rover will certainly be working with SVO for the Range Rover Velar SVR version as well.  This one shall boast a 5.0-litre V8 engine churning about 510 horses. The transmission will be an eight-speed transmission. There will all-wheel drive available, we highly doubt if it will have low-range on it.

Range Rover Velar Release Date

The new Rangie family member shall be unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. This will be the company’s new Range Rover family member and the fourth one in the list. The other variants like the hybrid and the SVR will come in later. At the moment, the plan will be to get the regular version first. This will be smaller than the Sport in dimensions. 

Range Rover Velar Price

The Velar will be priced in between the Evoque and the Sport. This will bridge the gap in the Range Rover portfolio. At the moment, the Velar in the UK costs £30,600 for the base model, while the Range Rover Sport prices start at just under £60,000. So, the Range Rover Velar will be priced at £40,000 to £50,000.

For the US market, the Evoque is priced at about $45,000 for the base model, while the Sport pricing starts at $76,000. So, the Range Rover Velar should be priced at $55,000 to $65,000. These will be excluding the hybrids and the SVR versions. Those will come in later.
