Kawasaki has launched yet another motorcycle for trail and off-roading enthusiasts. The Kawasaki KLX140G has been launched at INR 3.91 Lakhs (ex-showroom). This is not a road legal bike. Kawasaki has been looking at catering to budding motorsport enthusiasts. Off-roading and trail bikes is an area where Kawasaki has been dominant for many years. Now the company wants to bring in their expertise to India and capture the fancy of new customers in this segment. We test ride the Kawasaki KLX140G on an off-road trail and find out how good it is.

Kawasaki KLX140G Design

The Kawasaki KLX 140 G is typical looking trail bike. The G here stands for ‘Giant’. The design of the Kawasaki KLX 140 G has been inspired from Kawasaki’s KX range of motocross bikes. The styling is sharp and aggressive and it also has great tail riding capabilities. It uses a box-section perimeter frame. The suspension are high-grade and it comes with dual dic brakes and spoked wheels. The short tank has shrouds which have ventilation too. This makes the Kawasaki KLX140G look sporty and the fit finish is also very good.

The absence of a kick-start lever on the Kawasaki KLX140G allows an ideal foot position for a high level of machine control. The handlebar is rubber-mounted to reduce vibration transferred to the rider’s hands for enhanced comfort. The handlebar throttle grips feature a raised pattern on half of the surface making them easier to grip just as those found on Kawasaki’s MX racers.
Like the KX racers, the KLX140G motorcycle features a stylish two-tone seat cover that uses a slip-resistant top surface for good grip when seated and smooth sides for excellent rider mobility.

Kawasaki KLX140G Engine

The Kawasaki KLX140 G features a 144cc air-cooled, 4-stroke engine. This one has a manual clutch and 5-speed transmission. It also has a keyless ignition and electric start. The KLX140G has a compact power plant that is simple to operate and maintain via a manual clutch that offers a spring damper resulting in a progressive, 2-stage engagement that facilitates half-clutch use when riding at extremely low rpm or idling speeds.

The KLX140G comes standard with a spark arrester, which helps trail riding. Having this as a standard feature is another way Kawasaki has made the KLX140G a trail-ready motorcycle. the engine is pretty powerful and the power delivery helps riding in off road conditions. A torquey engine, this one and ideal for learners or novice riders.

Kawasaki KLX140G Ride and Handling

The Kawasaki KLX140G comes with 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels. These are spoked off-road wheels and the tyres too are off-road, nobby ones. With a low seat height of 860 mm, It is very easy to mount the bike and all keep your feet firmly on the ground. This is also very helpful for women riders. The Kawasaki KLX140G has an extremely light kerb weight of 99 kgs, hence maneuverability is fantastic.

The 33mm telescopic front forks and adjustable Uni-Trak rear suspension on the Kawasaki KLX140G offer very good travel, enough to overcome some grueling off roads that we experienced. The rear of the Kawasaki KLX140G has fully adjustable preload, 4-way compression damping and 22-way rebound damping which contributes to fun riding over a variety of terrain. The Kawasaki KLX140G gets front and rear petal-style disc brakes manage the stopping power very well.

Kawasaki KLX140G Price

The Kawasaki KLX140G is priced at INR 3.91 lakhs (ex-showroom). This is not a road legal bike, hence there would be no road taxes and registration required. This bike can be ridden only on tracks. The Kawasaki KLX140G is brought to India via the CBU route, hence the high price tag.
