Royal Enfield Classic 500 ABS launched!
Royal Enfield came to India in 1955 and partnered with Madras Motors to form Royal Enfield India. The cult following has only grown over the year and now only sky seems to be the limit. In 2009 R.E decided to launch a retro looking motorcycle. The Classic 350 and Classic 500 was the answer to that. This was a bike I used to read and ogle about in college days hoping to buy it someday as I knew I could never afford a Harley Davidson. The 350 a carburettor and the 500 being a fuel-injection. This is one design that gives a complete nostalgic feel with a pan head kind of design. Even so that it started to appeal more to the Bullet loving fans. The Royal Enfield Classic 500 2017 is here, read further to know more.

Royal Enfield Classic 500 Design
It cannot be denied that the retro look of the Classic 500 is what attracts all. It is next to impossible to find someone who is not fascinated by the classic age old design of the Classic 500. The Pan-Head styled headlamps with pilot lamps on either side. Typical old-school teardrop style fuel tank. The front and rear mud guard the covers almost half the circumference of both the wheels. Icing on the cake is the rider’s seat comes with springs. This is also a comfort quotient beside aesthetics. The long exhaust that can be seen flow from front to back is all chrome and gives a upmarket value. There is more chrome on the round mirrors. The single cylinder mill of the 500 looks massive. Last but not least the tail lamps is simple small basic round. This is a kind of bike you would like to ride to a mountain side cafe to have some tea.

Even with the massive 500 cc engine the Classic 500 manages a mere 27 bhp. This is not much for such a huge engine. But what does this bike give you is loads of torque, 41Nm is by no means a small figure. Your gear shifts have reduced drastically. This is thanks to the long 90mm stroke. This is also a reason for the loud thud-thud you hear that people have come to admire about the exhaust note of the Enfield. You can cruise all day in traffic or highway and the bike can go on. Sadly the lack of power despite the massive engine is a thing to improve and also if R.E could make this bike a 6-speed. There are no other safety aspects on this bike either, as there aren’t many electronics, there is no ABS on offer.

Royal Enfield Classic 500 2017 Mileage
Royal Enfield Classic 500 | Mileage |
City | 30 km/l |
Highway | 35 km/l |
Despite the big engine the Classic 500 manages 32 km/l. The long strokes and less power are the reason R.E has manages a good 30+ kmpl from the Classic 500. Combine this with a 13 litre tank an easy 300+ km before you have to stop for topping up again.
Royal Enfield Classic 500 2017 Ride and Handling
The 190 kg heavy weight thanks to the metal built of the bike makes it stable for highway rides. No wonder this is the favourite bike for the Ladakh bound people. On the flip side the heavy weight makes it difficult in heavy traffic scenes. One of the major drawbacks is the lack of grip from the MRF Zappers. Only wish R.E can put better tyres. There a lot of vibrations if you cross 5000 rpm. May end up making you feel like you have parkinson’s. Still though the Classic is a comfortable bike and long rides seems effortless. You can do around an easy 500+ km per day.
