Kawasaki W800 is a classic looking bike that could make its way into India. What this bike offers is classic styling, powerful engine and long stroke thump. Royal Enfield has been one of the fastest growing bike maker, and it seems Kawasaki will want to enter the same segment. The new W800 was showcased at a Kawasaki dealership. Is this a sign that the Japanese brand is looking at getting W800 to India? We share our detailed preview.

Kawasaki W800 Design

Vintage styling is what inspires the W800 designer. In terms of styling, this bike has appealing design with a lot of chrome elements. The front features a round headlamp with a large disc brake calliper.

The engine layout and the exhaust design will remind you of classic bike styling.

The old school styling means there is no space for rear monoshock also. The regular old school rear suspension has been used on the W800. The mirror frame has chrome finish and the tail lamp is a simple round one. The rear side indicators are bullet shaped. This bike will take you back in time with its design.

Kawasaki W800 Engine

Powered by a 773cc engine, this is an old school engine design too. It has long stroke, which means it shall produce the thump like an Enfield. Of course this engine is more powerful at 47bhp and 60Nm of torque. This comes mated to a five-speed transmission.

This being a Kawasaki, the engine refinement will be one of the best you can expect. The throttle response and the ease of riding factors will be present on the new W800. We could expect an increase in its power and if it comes to India, it needs to be BS-IV compliant as well. The engine power isn’t a major point for this bike, but it is the torque that will make it a better deal.

Kawasaki W800 Price

AS this is an old-school motorcycle, and it doesn’t get features like other modern bikes. We expect this bike to be priced at INR 6 lakhs (ex-showroom), only if it comes as a CKD. If the bike makes it entry in India as a CBU, the pricing will grow by about 40%. This will be a steep price for a bike of this size and capability.

Kawasaki W800 Launch Date

If and only if, the Kawasaki W800 comes to India, it won’t be anytime before late 2017. The Versys 650 seems to be doing good for the company and it seems that the company wants to diversify. Kawasaki is even considering a 250cc classic bike for India to compete with the Royal Enfield Electra.
