The KTM 390 Adventure is a bike that is greatly awaited. The brand image of KTM which is introduced by the sports bike in India has to deliver up to mark as they are entering a completely new segment in this country. Even though KTM has been making adventure bikes for a long time. Therefore this won’t be a great challenge for KTM. There is an update: it is said the motorcycle will also be made in its hard-core adventure avatar as well, so it will get spokes, higher ground clearance and likely different gearing from the regular 390.
The KTM 390 Adventure was going to launch in 2019 and the company had officially this year addressed that this bike will surely be coming this year but it seems to have delayed the launch. We could see this bike first at EICMA and then an early 2020 launch could happen. Adventure biking in India is quickly catching up, buyers are looking out for better and more powerful adventure bikes and the most awaited adventure bike will be finally here.
KTM 390 Adventure Design
The KTM 390 Adventure stands tall, which is typical of an adventure bike making high ground clearance its hallmark and that makes it look even taller. It gets the long-travel suspension to make it easy to ride over uneven roads and do some serious off-roading. For added aerodynamics, there is windshield also present, which is fully transparent. The seat of this KTM will be comfortable for rider and pillion both. It has spoked wheels, similar to other adventure motorcycles and the tires will be dual purpose ones. Mirrors on this bike might be simple and round ones. There will be some changes and there could be more additional minor changes on the off-road version as it will close into the production version. This is just a test mule at the moment. The 390 Adventure in India will be suited to Indian conditions.
The bike that has been spotted in the very early prototype and should be a bit more different. What we reckon that this bike should get dual-tone colour options and maybe even the KTM Adventure bike colour options and the bike will come with spokes and it will be a lot taller than the regular version.
The KTM 390 Adventure is expected to get a full-colour TFT screen along with the latest electronics suite, possibly with a switchable anti-lock braking system (ABS) and other electronics. The production-ready version is expected to be unveiled later this year at the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy, followed by an official launch, possibly by early 2020. So it makes sense for the all-new KTM 390 Adventure to come to India and settle scores with the Royal Enfield Himalayan and the BMW G 310 GS. The Enfield and the G 310 GS are already readily garnering their fan following by attacking the pricing of this KTM. This bike will also compete with the Kawasaki Versys 300.

|KTM 390 Adventure||₹ 2.75 lakhs|
To begin with, this segment is a niche segment. We expect the new KTM 390 Adventure to be priced at ₹ 2.75 lakhs (on-road) which is approximate pricing. There will be at the most an increase in the pricing by a few thousand only where it will be priced higher than the Duke 390 as it gets more equipment in terms of on/off-road tires, windshield and longer suspension. The bike is being touted for a launch next year and we might get to see on at EICMA this year.

KTM 390 Adventure Specifications
|Frame||Steel trellis frame|
|Tank Capacity||13.4 liters|
The KTM 390 Adventure will be having the same 373cc engine that is also found in the Duke 390 and RC 390 but this time the engine will be tuned for more torque, rather than outright power delivery. As it won’t be a high revving engine rather it will be designed to have good low-end torque which will be useful for riders to easily tackle the off-road situation with instant power. It is expected to get a larger sprocket too, to aid low-end torque.
Off all the adventure bikes, the KTM will be the most powerful at this price point. This will be a lot more affordable than the KTM making it an exciting bike for Indian buyers. This engine will have a higher torque through the gearbox making it produce more than sufficient power and it will not have the performance of the Duke. Accordingly, the top speed will be lower and acceleration better.
KTM 390 Adventure Colour
The KTM 390 Adventure will definitely be available in basic 3 KTM colours.
A new colour scheme like a camouflage print or inclusion of green would be great to see on this adventure focused bike. This would redifine the purpose of the bike and can also provide customers with something new. A new colour in KTM will also change the orange image that it has created. If not a new colour, then KTM should bring back the old black colour scheme that was offered on the initial launch of the KTM 200.
KTM 390 Adventure Suspension and Chassis
This bike will share the same chassis of the Duke 390, but it will be a heavily modified one. The bike shall have wider handlebars along with the front and rear suspension travel shall have a long travel. There will be standard crash bars as another standard feature and there could be an adjustable suspension for off-road use and the frame will be Trellis and it will be a lightweight one. This will enhance performance.
KTM 390 Adventure Spy Shots
Also, we have now spotted spy shots of the KTM 390 Adventure and it looks like the bike is production-ready. The motorcycle in the new picture sports long-travel suspension with cast wheels – a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear configuration. There is, however, a top-spec R version also expected, as seen in previous spy pictures, which will likely sport spoked wheels in a 21-inch front, and 18-inch rear configuration.
With the new spy shots. we can see the large windshield, new headlight but most surprisingly, black alloy wheels. As we know, alloy wheels are not the best for off-roading and wire mesh wheels will be more suitable for such a bike. But there will be an R version which will provide spoked wheels. Also, the Exhaust looks different from the current KTM bike we think this might be for increasing the ground clearance. We think that KTM is only testing the bike right now and wire mesh wheels will be offered on launch.
KTM 390 Adventure Competition
The Adventure will compete directly with the BMW G310 GS and the Royal Enfield Himalayan as well as Mahindra is working on more variants of the Mojo and there could be a tourer version as well. Bajaj is also looking at getting variants of the Dominar 400 in the adventure-touring segment. With all these new bikes, this will have a lot of competitors to fend off.
