Tata Q501 is being tested, but it is morphed up as the Land Rover Discovery Sport to hide the actual design of the SUV. JLR is an expect at this, as the company has been testing the Jaguar crossovers with the Land Rover skin. The same is being implemented with the new Tata Q501 SUV as well. This is the company’s all new sUV and shall be based on the Harrier platform. The new Q501 has been spotted by one of our readers. The images are clear and they suggest that the new SUV could be masked. The tyres on the SUV are Bridgestone Dueler and they appear to be 17-inch. This time the alloy wheels on the SUV are similar in design to the Tata Bolt, of course these are bigger ones. The engine is the 2.0-litre Multijet as even the exhaust is different. This is what makes it different from the Discovery Sport.
Tata Q501 Platform
The new Tata Q501 is based on the Harrier platform. This platform has been derived from the existing Land Rover Discovery platform. It is light in weight, rigid and is modular. This system is capable of building a 4×4. Being localised and developed in India, this platform shall be a lot more affordable and capable too.

Tata Q501 Price in India
It is very clear that a vehicle in excess of INR 25 lakhs from massive brands haven’t done that well. So, the pricing of this SUV will be under INR 20 lakhs. At the most the top-most variant with automatic should be priced at INR 19 lakhs (on-road). The starting point should be about INR 16 lakhs (on-road again).
Tata Q501 Launch Date
This will be launched by mid 2018. This is when the Jeep Compass will also be launched in India. So, both Tata and Fiat will be using this engine. From what we understand, both have planned to manufacture about 50,000 units of these SUVs annually to cater Indian and foreign markets.
