Tata Motors is currently readying a new compact SUV for India. It is part of the brand’s big plan to launch six new ICE cars in India by 2030. The Indian automaker has not yet revealed any major details regarding this model. Still, here’s what we expect from this new compact SUV.

New Tata Compact SUV Coming: What We Know So Far
Tata’s upcoming compact SUV is expected to be sold alongside the Nexon. Industry sources suggest that the revised version of the ARGOS platform could underpin this new model. At present, the ARGOS platform underpins the full-size Sierra. For an SUV measuring under four metres, Tata would need to re-engineer the platform. Alternatively, Tata Motors could develop a new platform that could also be used by the Nexon later on.
The upcoming compact SUV is expected to be more of a lifestyle SUV, like the Mahindra Thar, and less like the Nexon. Since the ARGOS architecture can also support an AWD drivetrain, it could be offered with the upcoming SUV.
To keep costs in check, Tata might not play around too much with the powertrain options. Expect the 1.2-litre turbo petrol and the 1.5-litre diesel engines from the Nexon to be used on this new compact SUV, with re-tuned outputs.
What Else?
Design-wise, expect it to be an upright, boxy SUV with high ground clearance. Being an off-road-biased SUV, it is safe to expect design details like a muscular bonnet, chunky bumpers, and more. Tata has not revealed any major details about this new SUV. But we expect it to offer features just like the Nexon, along with some off-road goodies.
In terms of features, we can expect this new SUV to offer a big touchscreen infotainment unit, a digital driver’s display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, off-road modes, and more.
Expected Launch & Price
While this new compact SUV is still in the planning stages, we can expect its launch by the end of 2028. As for pricing, we expect the model to be priced between Rs. 9-17 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
