Honda is developing a new global platform for small and mid-segment cars. At present, all Honda models in India are based on the global small-car platform, and this new modular platform will underpin a range of future products including SUVs, sedans, and hybrids. According to industry sources, the first model to debut on this platform will be a new three-row SUV, which is likely to be developed in India. New Honda 7-Seater SUV: Platform Details
With the new platform (codenamed PF2), Honda will aim to regain its dominance in India. While the brand has not shared any major details around this new platform yet, we expect it to be future-proof, supporting several powertrain types, from ICE to EVs and hybrids.
The Honda City had a first-mover advantage with the hybrid powertrain, but it felt like a half-hearted attempt. The pricing of the City hybrid was also quite high. Surprisingly, Honda skipped offering the hybrid powertrain with the Elevate.
However, the Japanese automaker might rethink its strategy and invest in the localisation of the hybrid powertrain to be more competitive in this segment. The new PF2 platform is said to be hybrid-ready and might be a game-changer for the brand, given the growing demand for hybrids.

About The New 7-Seater SUV
Industry sources suggest that the first model to be launched on this new platform will likely be a new three-row SUV. This new model could be positioned above the Elevate in Honda’s India lineup. Honda has not shared any major details about this new seven-seater. Still, it is safe to say that Honda might carry over features from its all-new 0 Alpha models.
Powertrain details too are under wraps, but we expect the seven-seater to offer the same 1.5-litre NA petrol engine that powers the Elevate, along with a strong hybrid option. Honda could also offer a 2.0-litre NA petrol hybrid (182 bhp & 315 Nm), paired to an e-CVT gearbox.
Back in 2024, Honda had said that the first model based on this new platform will debut by 2027. That said, we can expect this seven-seater to be launched by next year. Once launched, it will go up against the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Tata Safari, and the upcoming Renault Boreal in India. In terms of pricing, expect the new Honda seven-seater to be priced between Rs. 16 lakh – Rs. 27 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
