Toyota has launched the much-anticipated 2026 Hilux in India. It is an important launch for the Japanese brand as it serves as a reminder of what to expect from the upcoming Fortuner facelift, in terms of design changes, at least. Here’s a look.

New-Gen Toyota Hilux Launched
With prices ranging from Rs 38.54 lakh to Rs 44.22 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), the Hilux is in a league of its own, considering the cost as well as the equipment on offer. It is available in GX (4X2), GX (4X4) and VX (4X4) variants. You have a choice of six different colours, namely Sulphur Metallic, Platinum Pearl White Metallic, Attitude Black, Ash Grey, Emotional Red and Super White.

Design
Compared to the outgoing Hilux, the new-gen looks quite different, thanks to a design overhaul. The pick-up truck now gets a sharp yet muscular front-end design, with sleek headlights, a robust skid plate, a new honeycomb grille and ‘Toyota’ lettering on the grille. On the sides, you get a new alloy wheel design that is a great combination of tough and stylish. At the rear, it gets bold, engraved ‘Toyota’ lettering replacing the decal logo, a fresh set of LED taillights, and a blacked-out bumper. The design of the new-gen Hilux is quite modern but still has a rugged charm.

New-Gen Toyota Hilux Features
With the new-gen, the Hilux gets a slew of new features when compared to the old one. New features include a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 360-degree camera with parking support, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, an eight-speaker sound system, a hydraulically assisted tailgate, wireless phone charger, and much more. It also gets off-road-centric features like Multi-Terrain Select (Terrain Modes), Downhill Assist Control, and 4WD modes (2H, 4H & 4L). Toyota is now offering seven airbags in the new-gen Hilux.

Powertrain
Like the outgoing Hilux, the new-gen model gets the same 2.8-litre diesel engine producing 201 bhp and 500 Nm of torque. This time, the Hilux is only available with a six-speed torque converter automatic – the manual gearbox option has been withdrawn.

New-Gen Toyota Hilux: What Else?
In India, pick-up trucks are mostly used for commercial purposes, while buyers prefer SUVs. However, the new Hilux makes a compelling case and might tempt many buyers to choose it over an SUV, given its off-road capabilities, new design, and punchy performance.
