Mahindra 7XO vs Tata Safari: Safety Comparison
Mahindra kick-started 2026 with the launch of the Mahindra XUV 7XO. The 7XO was a big update, bringing advanced features and a refreshed look compared to the XUV700. That’s not it; the XUV 7XO also offers additional safety features, making it safer than its predecessor. On the other hand, Tata cars are always known for their safety. And the Safari is no exception. So which one is safer?

Which Is the Safest 7-Seater?
The official crash test rating of the Mahindra 7XO is still pending. Based on the same W601 platform as the XUV 700, Mahindra has stated the XUV 7XO is engineered to achieve a 5-star safety rating. Earlier, under Global NCAP testing, the XUV700 secured a 5-star safety rating with 16.03 out of 17 points for adult occupant protection and 41.66 out of 49 points for child occupant protection. Improving on the older XUV700, Mahindra has offered 7 airbags as standard and a Level 2+ ADAS system for added safety.

Tata has taken Indian car safety standards to a whole new level. The Safari has undergone extensive safety testing under both the primary automotive safety testing organisations, the Bharat NCAP and the Global NCAP. It secured a 5-star safety rating in both tests, with 30.08 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection and 44.54 out of 49 points for child occupant protection in the Bharat NCAP test. Similarly, it secured 33.05 out of 34 points for adult occupant protection and 45 out of 49 points for child occupant protection in the Global NCAP tests. Tata Safari’s safety features include 6 airbags as standard, level-2 ADAS, TPMS, a 360-degree parking camera, and much more.
Consider the 5-star safety rating and safety equipment on both 7-seater models; they are safe options for carrying your family. Still, when comparing the safety scores on paper, Safari appears to have high scores for child occupant protection.

Mahindra XUV 7XO vs Tata Safari: What Else?
The Mahindra XUV 7XO offers a triple 12.3-inch dashboard screen setup, a panoramic sunroof, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby Atmos, and more. Powering the 7XO is the 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol engine producing 200 bhp and 380 Nm of torque, or the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine producing up to 182 bhp and 450 Nm of torque. You can choose between a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque-converter AT gearbox, along with these engine options. Interesting, you also get an AWD powertrain option with the diesel 7XO, which many will appreciate. The 7XO is priced between Rs. 16.54 lakh and Rs. 30.86 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
On the other hand, the Tata Safari features a 14.5-inch Samsung Neo QLED infotainment system, dual-zone automatic climate control, a voice-assisted panoramic sunroof, built-in dual dashcams, and much more. Under the hood, Tata now offers a 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo-petrol engine producing 170 bhp, or a 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine producing 170 bhp and 350 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual and AT gearbox. That being said, the Safari is priced between Rs. 15.89 lakh and Rs. 32.60 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
