June 2026 Car Sales –
Maruti has seen a month-on-month dip of nearly 22%, but it has retained its comfortable position as the leader in domestic sales. Tata Motors held the second spot, in neck-and-neck competition with Mahindra, which is in the third spot. Hyundai, with a dip of 17%, has retained the fourth spot, and Toyota has secured the fifth spot on the charts.
This dip in car sales might be due to several hiccups in the Indian auto segment – including rising petrol costs, ethanol blending issues, diesel-isobutanol blending, and even the introduction of flex-fuel cars. In fact, electric mobility is seeing greater demand in recent months, which shows that buyers are now moving towards owning an electric car to avoid stress from fuel norms and pricing.
Tata and Mahindra’s wide EV portfolio is eventually helping to survive this dip. However, other brands are also trying to introduce new EVs to the market to keep up with demand and avoid falling behind in sales. Maruti already has the e-Vitara in its portfolio and will launch a new 7-seater EV; the same model will also have its own Toyota version. Kia is already planning to launch the Syros EV, while Hyundai has already been spotted testing its upcoming boxy EV.

What Else?
The war jitters are now coming to an end, and we hope petrol prices might see a cut too. The petroleum minister has also hinted at the same. If this turns out to be true, we might see good sales momentum this month, as many people who have held off on buying a petrol car might eventually buy one. Also, we will be witnessing as many as 6 new mass-market cars launch this month, which is expected to boost sales for the brands.
