New Mahindra SUV Rival Spotted!

While Mahindra has been a dominant force in the 7-seater SUV segment, a new contender will soon enter the market. The XEV 9S has been the best-selling Mahindra EV and the second best-selling EV in India, behind the Windsor EV. And now, we have come across a few spy shots of its upcoming rival, which will be a part of the JSW-MG collaboration. The test mule was spotted at a charging station, indicating it is an EV, as the Starlight 560 is also sold as a PHEV in international markets. The Starlight 560 is sold under the Wuling branding, which is MG’s sister company in China, and MG will be bringing this SUV into the Indian market. This SUV is expected to replace the MG Hector Plus. So, let’s dive into more details about this upcoming MG SUV!

MG Starlight 560 – What To Expect?

In terms of design, the MG Starlight will stand out in the crowd with a unique and fresh design. Measuring up to 4.75 meters, the Starlight 560 is quite a big SUV with a spacious and roomy cabin, slightly longer than the XEV 9S. While the exterior design is bold and handsome, the interior seems even better. Wuling offers 2 interior colour themes: Walnut Brown and Walnut Sand Brown, both of which offer a premium look to the cabin. The dashboard is dominated by a 12.8-inch touchscreen, which controls most of the functions in the cabin. The Starlight 560 gets a slew of other features like a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, a digital instrument cluster, powered and ventilated front seats, and the list goes on.

While it may not be the most feature-rich SUV, it does have all the essentials. This particular test mule is an EV. The international spec Starlight gets a 56.7kWh battery pack along with a single electric motor producing 136bhp and 200Nm of torque along with a claimed range of 500km. So, the Starlight 560 has decent performance and a good claimed range. However, when compared to the XEV 9S, it falls short by a substantial amount, and we will have to wait and see how this translates into the real world. That said, we believe that the Starlight 560 will carry a price tag ranging from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 35 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). MG is expected to launch this SUV by the festive season.
