The next new SUV from Mercedes-Benz will be the GLB. The GLC has replaced the GLK which was the best seller for the German automaker. It has lost its rugged looks in the process. The Mercedes GLB will be a rugged looking SUV, though. It will be underpinned by the MFA platform. The new GLB will be somewhat a replacement of the GLK, in terms of size. But it will be heavily inspired from the G-Class. What will the new Mercedes-Benz GLB pack in? The GLB has been spotted on test. This new SUV will be making its way into production. We bring out in this preview.
Mercedes-Benz GLB Design
The Mercedes-Benz GLB will be dimensionally similar to the B-Class. The design aspect will be an evolution of the GLK. Rugged looks will be added on the GLB to make it carry forward the design language. The test mules that show a lot of similarity to the GLA might not be what the company will make the GLB look like. It is too early to come to a conclusion, but as all the other SUVs look muscular, the GLB could also get a similar approach.
The Mercedes-Benz GLB will derive its design from the Ener-G Force concept. This is the same design that will be used to build the new-generation G-Class too. The new Mercedes GLB will be stylish and an affordable and more practical avatar of the G Wagen. For those who can’t afford a G or those who need it for urban use, will pick up the Mercedes GLB. This is a good option for young buyers who need a more affordable version. Like the A-Class, the GLB will be a revolutionary product.

Mercedes-Benz GLB Engines
MB could look at plonking a 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines on the Mercedes-Benz GLB with different state of tunes from 150bhp to 245bhp. This will be coming with a nine-speed automatic transmission too. Plug-in hybrids are growing in the Mercedes portfolio and even the GLB will have one by then. The Mercedes-Benz GLB will be offered with front-wheel and all-wheel drive options. An all-wheel drive GLB 45 AMG will also be in the making. It won’t get anything different otherwise.
Mercedes-Benz GLB Interior
The Mercedes-Benz GLB will be similar to the other MFA platform cars be it the A-Class or the CLA-Class. There will round AC vents and a simple COMAND system along with a large screen on the top. In terms of space, the Mercedes-Benz GLB will be practical like the B-Class. As the GLA is more about the design, the GLB will be a mix of design and practicality. The Mercedes-Benz GLB will be a four-seater too and it should have similar space to that on the B-Class. The boot will fairly usable like the B.
Features list will be COMAND, seven airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, 4MATIC with downhill control, cruise control and hill control assist. Expect leather seats, electrically retracting mirrors, MirrorLink and even a Harman Kardon system. The Mercedes-Benz GLB will come loaded with a lot more features and most importantly spacious interiors.

Mercedes-Benz GLB Competition
Mercedes-Benz GLB will be a direct competition to the Audi Q3 and the BMW X1. At the moment, the GLC is too large to compete with them. The Mercedes-Benz GLB will be the ideal size in competition. Now, all the three German SUVs are front wheel drive with an option of all wheel drive too.

Mercedes-Benz GLB Release Date
Do not expect the Mercedes-Benz GLB to see the day light because 2018. It is still in its nascent stage of testing. We could expect it make its entry with the new-generation A-Class and GLA-Class. This will be an all new SUV.
Mercedes-Benz GLB Price (Expected)
This is the tricky bit. It is too early to state anything, but the pricing of the Mercedes-Benz GLB will be very close to the B-Class. For USA, it should be about $44,000 for the base model, while in the UK it will commence at £24,000 from our estimates.

Mercedes-Benz GLB Hybrid
All the new Mercs are getting hybrid technology and so will the GLB. This new SUV will have plug in hybrid technology along with the 4MATIC. For the US market, it will get the petrol hybrid and for Europe this might come plonked with a diesel and electric motor combination.
Mercedes-Benz GLB- a good move?
The Stuttgart based automaker is looking at turning around the tables for the brand and getting into a major selling SUV segment. As the GLC is much larger than the X1 and the Q3, it becomes a new segment above it, while this leaves a gap for MB to fill. Let us not forget that the GLK is the best selling SUV for Mercedes and they will not want to loose out customers in this segment, especially when competition is leaving no margin for error. The new Mercedes-Benz GLB will have the looks of the G Wagen and the space of the B-Class, making it a perfection situation for the Stuttgart based automaker. With a front-wheel drive and 4MATIC, this will be lighter and fuel-efficient too.
Another product to be added to the MFA family, and it does make it a better pick for many as the B-Class MPV sales have slowed down when compared to other MFA models. From what we understand, Mercedes would be looking at saving its customers who were buying the GLK. This will fill in the gap and be an ideal choice for those are looking at getting a rugged looking SUV.
